Beyoncé Raised $82K for Flint Water Crisis Victims

Klaudia//June 14, 2016
Beyoncé‘s management company, Parkwood Entertainment, and their director of philanthropy and corporate relations presented a check of $82,234 to the United Way of Genesee County at a Detroit high school on Monday (Jun. 13) in partnership with her philanthropic platform, BeyGOOD. The company also provided 14 select students, chosen by the high school’s principals, with college gifts to supplement their educational expenses and tickets Beyoncé’s Formation World Tour show in Detroit.

The funds came by way of the artist’s loyal supporters. “Fans who purchased tickets to the Beyoncé Formation World Tour shows provided donations to support the work of United Way of Genesee County, which is continuing to respond to the water crisis in Flint, Michigan,” reads the official statement. “United Way of Genesee County has been at the forefront of distributing bottled water and filtration systems, as well as providing and emergency support services to those in need.”

After the short-term needs of the Flint residents are met, the United Way will issue the rest of the funds to the Flint Child Health and Development Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, which will provide long-term developmental, health, and educational support to citizens in the area. The Beyhive has also shown their support by getting involved with United Way projects, which include stuffing backpacks with school supplies and providing diapers to needy families.

“We are so grateful for the support Beyoncé has given to those in Flint and the way she has inspired her fans to fight for the education, health and financial stability of everyone in their communities,” said Stacey D. Stewart, the U.S. President of United Way Worldwide. “This partnership demonstrates just how easy it can be to give back.”
