Kanye West Rains On Taylor Swift's VMA Parade, Beyonce Saves Day

Klaudia//September 15, 2009
Kanye West is no stranger to controversy, especially at award shows, but his latest stunt at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night may have pushed him over the edge. Shortly after country star Taylor Swift accepted the award for Best Female Video where she managed to beat out stiff competition like Beyonce and Lady Gaga, the singer became the victim of an apparent ambush on stage. Mid way through her speech, West charged to the stage, snatched the microphone from Swift and with a few words, managed to destroy what should have been a shining moment in her career. "Taylor, I'm really happy for you. I'll let you finish," the rapper told a visibly stunned Taylor. "But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time ... one of the best videos of all time!" Taylor, who has never won a VMA before, was left speechless and nearly in tears. A camera shot caught Beyonce, among other stars, shocked at what had just transpired. The awkwardness could be felt throughout Radio City Music Hall. The show's producers scrambled to keep the show moving by running a pre-produced skit featuring rapper Eminem and comedian Tracy Morgan, but the damage was already done. Stars who were ringside for the spectacle, took to Twitter where they expressed their outrage. "Kanye west is the biggest piece of (expletive) on earth. Quote me," a fuming Pink tweeted from her seat in Radio City. According to reports, the singer had to be held back by security when she approached West in the venue. This, as Katy Perry held nothing back. " U KANYE. IT'S LIKE U STEPPED 0N A KITTEN," she tweeted. West left the venue shortly after his impromptu outburst. MTV News is reporting that the rapper was asked by show's producers to leave. Taylor eventually received her moment to finish her speech when she was summoned to the stage by Beyonce herself, following her historic win for Video of the Year for her catchy tune "Single Ladies" (Put A Ring On It). "Maybe we can try this again," Swift said, to a standing ovation. "I would really like to thank Roman White, who directed the video, and Lucas Till for being in it," she said. "I would like to thank all the fans on Twitter and MySpace and everyone that came out to my shows this summer. And I would like to thank my little brother's high school for letting us shoot there." Beyonce, who walked away with the night's biggest award was left with no time to make her own speech. In essence, West not only put a damper on Taylor's night, but stole B's moment to shine.
