Beyonce 'In No Way Tied' to Saartjie Baartman Film

Klaudia//January 6, 2016
After rumors swirling that Beyonce would be writing and starring in a film about Saartjie (Sarah) Baartman -- the South African woman who appeared in freak shows because of her physical features during the 1800s -- the multi-hyphenate is denying her involvement.

"Beyonce is in no way tied to this project," her rep told Billboard in a statement (Jan. 5). "This is an important story that should be told, however."

Baartman -- shown off in exhibits under the name Hottentot Venus -- was made a spectacle across Europe, particularly England and Paris for her voluptuous shape. She died in 1815 at the age of 26 -- five years after her arrival in Europe -- but did not receive a proper burial in her native South Africa until 2002.

Jack Devnarain, chairman of the South African Guild of Actors, echoed Beyonce's sentiment, telling Billboard over e-mail that Baartman's story deserves recognition.

"The story of Saartjie Baartman is a tale of torture and humiliation of a woman, womanhood in general and an entire culture indigenous to Southern Africa. As an episode in South African history, it describes the crippling damage of racism, sexism and exploitation," he said. "Baartman was paraded as a freak and brutally robbed of her humanity. Her story needs to be told."

Klaudia//November 11, 2015
Beyonce attended a script reading for a Parkwood Entertainment feature film in Los Angeles on Monday night. Actor Jorge Ortiz tweeted the following:

"A picture of #Beyonce & I after last night’s #FeatureFilm script reading. Elegant and a class act"

"I’m about to enter the #BeyHive. Acting in a #FeatureFilm stage reading for the one and only in just a few seconds."

"The #FeatureFilm stage reading went great tonight! We entered the #BeyHive and did her proud."

Beyoncé & Jay Z Do Not Cameo In 'The Interview'

Klaudia//December 26, 2014
Following "This Is The End," which featured cameo appearances from Rihanna, Paul Rudd, Emma Watson and pretty much every funny actor in Hollywood -- all playing variations on themselves -- it was assumed that co-directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg would continue to play with reality in "The Interview." The comedy, which was pulled from theaters this week, is built around an entertainment interview program, "Skylark Tonight," where host Dave Skylark (James Franco) interviews a variety of celebrity guests. (During an MTV special to promote the film this summer, Franco as Skylark spoke with Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea.) And when the 210-page budget for "The Interview" leaked online this month, many famous names appeared: Jay Z, Beyoncé, Brad Pitt, Neil Patrick Harris, Zooey Deschanel, Michael Vick and even Kevin Federline, among them.

But the finished film includes none of those stars in any significant capacity, if at all. (It's possible they could appear in the background or during a brief glimpse of the "Skylark Tonight" opening credits. Having seen the film twice, however, I feel comfortable saying they're absent altogether.) In fact, only three recognizable faces appear as variations on themselves in "The Interview": Rob Lowe (who reveals he's bald), Eminem (who reveals he's gay) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who reveals he likes puppies).

Beyonce & Jay-Z to Cameo in "The Interview"

Klaudia//December 5, 2014
Seth Rogen was paid more than $8.4 million and his co-star James Franco received $6.5 million for their new film The Interview, according to a Bloomberg report, which says the figures were among a cache of sensitive documents that hackers stole from Sony Pictures Entertainment that are now being released to the press in a steady stream. The report further states that the movie, on which Rogen also served as co-director as well as one of the writers and producers, cost $44 million.

Fusion also reveals that Beyonce and Jay Z are set to cameo in the film, with each of them being paid $10,000 and given first-class plane tickets.

The Interview, a comedy in which Franco and Rogen play TV journalists who are drafted by the CIA to assassinate North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, is scheduled to open Christmas Day and has been condemned by North Korean officials, who have dubbed it an "act of war."

"Epic" Director Talks About Working With Beyonce

Klaudia//May 27, 2013
Yahoo! recently spoke on the phone with "epic" director Chris Wedge – the Oscar winner behind "Ice Age" (2002) and "Robots" (2005) – about helping Beyonce find her animated voice in this "old school classic adventure movie."

"Beyonce, as it turns out, is quite a soulful person, and was able to carry the emotional content that her role required pretty easily," said Wedge. "Up close and personal she's a very committed and focused person. She was a little timid when she first walked up to the microphone to do acting and not singing, but as soon as she got past that she was really able to reach right in and get what the role required emotionally."

Though Wedge may have been surprised by Knowles's initially timidity, he wasn't surprised by her passion. "As I thought about it, she probably pours her heart into her singing, and this wasn't much difference, she just poured it into these lines."

Being a mom and one of the biggest stars on the planet, Knowles obviously has a lot going on, but when she gets down to work, she's focused and committed. "She's hard to get on the phone, but once you get her in the room, she's all yours," said Wedge. "We didn't have to go for many adjustments. She gave us a really strong performance in the first session and we used a lot of that for the scenes we recorded that day."

Though Wedge is used to working with big names, we asked if he was intimidated by working with a name as big as Beyoncé's. "It's tough to be intimated by her. Her bodyguard's pretty intimidating, he's about seven feet tall, but he's a nice guy."

The star, 31, is the voice of Queen Tara in the 3-D computer-animated family film Epic, in theaters May 24.

Beyonce : I am just a girl – interview

Klaudia//May 9, 2013
A vocalist, songwriter, fashion designer, model, actress and a tabloid icon, Beyonce is one of the busiest and most financially successful artists in the world, found near the top of every list accounting for power and influence among celebrities and artists, hence having an audience with her is a challenging endeavour, so I was delighted to have a 20 minute interview.

The rendezvous was set for 4.30pm at the Corinthia Hotel, in London, one of Beyonce’s stops on her Mrs. Carter show world tour. On my way to the conference room from the hotel’s lobby, I encounter security guards at every door. At one room, I see a crew busily unpacking photography equipment from a mountain of boxes and hauling it into the conference room, where they have literally built a photo studio, as if we were going to do a fashion shoot. You see, Beyonce doesn’t allow anyone to take her photo other than her own photographers.

Entering the room, I am greeted by her representatives with a ticket for her concert tonight, an elegant handbag that contained Beyonce’s brand perfume and served a Pepsi drink -Beyonce has $50 million dollar promotion deal with Pepsi. I am also reminded that once I entered the room, I woudn’t be able to leave it. I acquiesce contently- a decision that I soon regret.

I endure waiting over 90 frustrating minutes for Beyonce. The chilled Pepsi fails to quench my discomfiture, so her people, who keep promising that she is on her way, try vainly to numb my displeasure with more potent drinks, including high quality wine. Finally, someone says that she has just got out of her chair, and is heading to the lift, which sound promising.
