Designer Rubin Singer on Dressing Beyoncé

Klaudia//January 8, 2013
My fellow Beyoncé freaks will relish the information I recently learned about her from designer Rubin Singer, who dressed her for a private Vegas concert on New Year's Eve: She's as lovely, polite, and generous as you were hoping. In fact, Singer says she and sister Solange Knowles are "the only celebrities that always dry clean and send clothes back in a box, with a hand-written thank you note. They are true ladies."

The process of creating a custom piece for Bey is as hectic as you might think--Singer had just two weeks to design the unitard, have the fabric embroidered in India, shipped back, put together, and customized at the fitting (which, incidentally, took place in the bathroom at the Alvin Ailey dance studio). "When you do a fitting with her, she doesn't keep you waiting half a day like some celebrities do," he says. "When she's there, she's present and honest and grateful."

That's not the only upside of designing for Beyoncé: "She and I have had a working relationship now for about five years," Singer says, "and in that time, I've been invited to every concert she's had in New York, she's introduced me to people she thinks I should work with, she and her team are just incredibly generous people."

Details on Beyonce's Las Vegas show

Klaudia//January 3, 2013
Beyonce rang in the new year in style Dec. 31 the best way she knew how: Singing into a microphone and showing off her dance moves for a glitzy private performance in Las Vegas.

The "Love On Top" singer, 31, commanded the stage at the Wynn Hotel Las Vegas for a set that lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours, a source tells Us Weekly.

Before she ushered in 2013, Beyonce told the crowd, “I want you to think about everything beautiful in your life. I think that’s what you should visualize in 2013. So get that picture in your mind. I want you to think about everything you love.”

"She was incredible!” the showgoer says of the VIP event.

Bey donned custom designed outfits by European couture house Ralph & Russo for the performance, including a black-and-white rhinestone peplum number that she later posted to her Tumblr blog.

The singer was spotted arriving at a private airport in Vegas on Dec. 28 sans husband Jay-Z or daughter Blue Ivy, who turns 1 Jan. 7 (the couple's precious bundle of joy joined her musical mother in Vegas later on that weekend). Not that Beyonce traveled alone.

According to a source, Queen Bey was surrounded by "a lot of security people," and looked cool and collected in Shades skinny jeans and a leather jacket.

"It's hard to tell what mood she was in behind her big shades!" the source tells Us.

"I just saw Beyonce at the private airport in Las Vegas!" one Twitter user shared earlier in the day. "I think is safe to say she's the most gorgeous girl I have ever seen."

Jay-Z, who was in Brooklyn for New Year's Eve for his own concert with Coldplay, gave a shoutout to his wife during the sold-out show.

The Detroit Bureau reports that the Detroit automaker will place the highly anticipated C7 Corvette on the 50-yard line during the game’s halftime show and later present it to halftime performer Beyonce.

GM would not confirm the news, but Chevrolet spokesman Mike Albano told The Detroit Bureau, “We’ve got a history of being involved with the Super Bowl.”

Black Ball Postponed Due to Hurricane Sandy

Klaudia//October 31, 2012
Put the tuxes and designer gowns back in the closet. Alicia Keys’ Black Ball charity gala has been delayed due to Hurricane Sandy.

The ninth annual Black Ball to benefit Keys’ organization Keep a Child Alive was originally set to take place on Thursday at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, but it has since been postponed due to the storm. A new date will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all our fellow New Yorkers affected by this devastating storm,” the organization said in a statement (via MTV News).

This year’s Black Ball was set to feature performances from Beyoncé, Carole King, Angelique Kidjo, and Alabama Shakes, while Oprah Winfrey and Kidjo were to be honored for their philanthropic efforts.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards people affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

Beyoncé will take the stage at the halftime show during Super Bowl XLVII on Feb.3 in New Orleans, a source tells the Associated Press.

During last year's halftime show, Madonna incorporated LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. into her 12-minute performance.

Fans can't help but wonder if Beyoncé, 31, will share the stage with any of the number of artists she's worked with like Kelly Rowland, Shakira and Sean Paul.

The official announcement is set to be made Wednesday, and Beyoncé's rep did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Beyoncé 'Lined-Up For The X Factor Final'

Klaudia//October 16, 2012
Beyoncé has already been booked to appear on The X Factor final this year - and has apparently been earmarked to perform a duet with Ella Henderson.

The Mirror reports that show boss Simon Cowell is so confident that the teenager will make the final three, he is already planning for her to sing with Bey.

It will be the pop superstar's first visit to the show since her duet with a blubbing Alexandra Burke in 2008 - which was thought by many to have helped Alex secure the win.

A source told the paper: "We are delighted to get Beyoncé on the show because she is such a huge crowd pleaser and will make sure the final goes with a bang.

"The last time she sang with Alexandra it was incredible and we hope to have her sing a duet again. Ella is the one most likely to sing with her because hearing their voices together would be just amazing.

"The show is still in its early stages, but Simon hasn't wasted any time in trying to line up acts for the final. He wants to get in there before Strictly."

Strictly Come Dancing beat The X Factor in the ratings again this weekend, scoring 11.3 million viewers compared to 9.9 million.

Beyoncé Graces Stage For Barclays Center Finale

Klaudia//October 7, 2012
Jay-Z has earned the right to be a little bit selfish. No doubt Hov could've called on music's biggest stars and maybe even President Barack Obama to stroll out during any of his eight shows at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center, but he kept his guest list to a minimum electing to soak in all of the hometown glory mostly for himself. But on Saturday (October 6) night's Barclays finale Mr. Carter brought out one very special guest, his wife Beyoncé.

After running through the couple's duet " '03 Bonnie & Clyde" by his lonesome, Jiggaman made way for wifey who came stomping out to the tune of her 2008 single "Diva." Flanked by a number of dances, Bey who rocked black leather shorts and a matching Brooklyn Nets cap strutted across stage before launching into the crowd favorite "Crazy in Love."

Klaudia//September 21, 2012
Beyonce Knowles is lending her voice for a good cause. The former Destiny's Child star is set to take the stage at Alicia Keys' annual Black Ball concert, which will benefit the "A Woman's Worth" songstress' Keep a Child Alive foundation concerned with people affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

Joining Queen Bey as a musical performer at the event will be Carole King. In a statement, Keys gushes that the folk rock artist has "blazed the trail for women in the music industry," before adding, "Women will be rocking the house this year."

Keys, Angelique Kidjo and rock band Alabama Shakes are among others who will sing at the gala, which will honor Oprah Winfrey and Kidjo for their philanthropic efforts. To take place November 1 at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, the event has Whoopi Goldberg on board as the host.

MTV Executive talks VMA Moments

Klaudia//September 12, 2012
Kanye Storms the Stage and Interrupts Taylor Swift (2009)
Toffler: “There’s no way any of us could have predicted that — we didn’t orchestrate it. He came with a bottle of alcohol, so he was in a festive mood to begin with. But we all were in shock in the truck when he walked up on stage and took the mic from Taylor. I remember turning to one of the producers and going, ‘Do we not have security?’ we don’t put those big bulky guys on camera in front of the talent. Maybe this guy thought Kanye belonged on the stage.
I said to our line producer, ‘You need to go talk to Kanye and probably have him exit the building, and I will go deal with Taylor.’ And she was about to perform right after that break! She was a champ. I would be lying if I said she and her mom weren’t crying when I saw them, but she pulled it together. This was one of the most absurd VMA moments for me, having to talk to her and her mom, and they’re crying and upset, and this was her first time on the VMAs, and she had been used to working on country shows with polite artists. This was a little bit more chaotic than she was used to. And then I walked back behind the stage to find Beyoncé crying about the incident. Ultimately I talked to her and her dad and then went back to Taylor after her performance, and an hour later Beyoncé brought Taylor back out so she could have her moment.

Beyoncé’s Pregnant Pause (2011)
“I remember Beyoncé showed up to rehearsal, and she was wearing really loose clothing. We like to know the wardrobe choices that our artists are making — we’ve learned the hard way sometimes. I remember asking her manager about it, and she said, ‘Don’t worry, she’ll show you the day of.’
She said to our director that she didn’t want to have a cutaway. She said, ‘Take a close-up of me at the end of the song. No audience applauding shot—I want you tight on me.’ That is what we knew. And then on the red carpet, she had kind of indicated what was going on. It wasn’t until an hour before the show that we figured it out, and the rest of the world figured it out. Most of the artists didn’t know, and we got that great of Kanye after the reveal with Jay.”

Beyonce Performs At United Nations

Klaudia//August 11, 2012
"Is this what happens at the U.N. every Friday night?" Anderson Cooper jokingly asked the crowd seated in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations on Friday (August 10). "Because, I've gotta tell you ... I wanna be here every Friday night if this goes on."

The news anchor was referring to members of the organization and their invited guests who were gathered for a special event leading up to World Humanitarian Day, quickly approaching on Saturday. Cooper, himself a humanitarian in many respects, was on hand to host a series of interviews with local and international humanitarians that would eventually lead into a performance from Beyoncé.

The 30-year-old star had appeared at the United Nations earlier in the day, where she rehearsed her performance of "I Was Here" and met with members of the United Nations. Now, at 8 p.m. ET on Friday night, Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson made his way to the stage welcoming everyone to the General Assembly Hall and giving an early introduction of Beyoncé.

"Tonight brings more than her stunning talents; she brings inspiration to help another person, to help another human being," he told the crowd, going on to describe "I Was Here" as a "profound and moving song." When he slipped on the title for a second, calling the song "I Was There," it became evident that there were some Bey stans in the audience. They quickly corrected him and joined him in laughing it off, while he added, "in fact 'here' and 'there' is the same thing — that's solidarity."
