Beyonce Sends Flowers To Her British Vogue Cover Photographer

Klaudia//October 31, 2020
Beyoncé sent flowers with a note to Kennedi Carter to congtarulate her on the British Vogue cover.

The singer specifically requested a woman of colour for the shoot, and together with Vogue’s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful she landed on Kennedi. Her first ever fashion shoot saw her capture Beyoncé in full “bow down” mode between a studio and her sprawling Hamptons home over two days in August. In one image, Beyoncé reclines on a leather chair in an Oscar de la Renta feathered fuchsia dress. Another aerial shot finds the powerhouse in a macramé Tom Ford gown, one patent-leather, Louboutin-clad foot resting on her coffee table.

“I was just going with the flow. I had done a lot of research into how she works, and I had underestimated how much she’s willing to submit herself to a vision and truly become someone else’s muse,” says Carter, who worked closely with Parkwood Entertainment creative director Kwasi Fordjour on the shoot, which was styled remotely by Enninful via Zoom. The resulting sense of freedom was a surprise to Carter, who says Beyoncé’s ability to “control her own narrative” has always been one of the things she admires most about her. The superstar’s sheer professionalism aside, Beyoncé was “just so, so nice,” Carter says. “Plus she’s from Texas. So she has that energy.”

By now, you've read the story. You know we'll never get the Snapchat. We may never get a Formation World Tour documentary. And Beyoncé will never not bet on... #Beyoncé. For ELLE’s January 2020 issue, Mrs. Carter offered a rare opportunity for fans: Full access. In an intimate #AMA session with her Beyhive, the superstar opened up about motherhood, self-care, reclaiming her Ivy Park line, and her quest for purpose. In this exclusive clip, we get an even closer look at the cover — shot by longtime collaborator, Queen & Slim director Melina Matsoukas — and the Queen's highly-anticipated Ivy Park x adidas partnership (which lands on January 18!).

Beyoncé Covers January 2020 Issue of Elle

In a global ELLE exclusive, Beyoncé answers questions directly from her fans. Read her thoughts on motherhood, finding time for date nights and how she learned to feel “more womanly and secure”.

As she unveils her new adidas partnership for IVY PARK, Beyoncé offers a rare opportunity for fans: full access.

Descending from the sky into a nondescript corner of L.A.’s Crenshaw neighbourhood, parachute in tow, Beyoncé is something of an otherworldly presence. She strides into the local hair salon, bodega, laundromat and wig shop wearing pieces from her IVY PARK x adidas collection—living proof that you, too, can be a stylish superhero in your own life, no matter where you live and who you are. She designs IVY PARK with everyone in mind, emphasizing a “fly” look for all—whether they’re dropping off the kids, going to the gym or out on a dinner date. For ELLE’s shoot, the superstar gamely poses for a series of cinematic vignettes she dreamed up with her Lemonade collaborator, Queen & Slim director Melina Matsoukas.

Vogue Beyoncé Portrait Heading to Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery

Klaudia//August 21, 2019
A striking portrait of Beyoncé, shot by the rising photographer Tyler Mitchell for Vogue’s all-important September issue last year, is on its way to the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington.

Mr. Mitchell, who is the first African-American photographer and one of the youngest to shoot a cover for Vogue, announced the news online on Tuesday.

“A year ago today we broke the flood gates open,” Mr. Mitchell said on Instagram. “Since then it was important to spend the whole year running through them making sure every piece of the gate was knocked down. And now I’m glad to share this picture is being acquired into” the museum.

Concetta Duncan, a spokeswoman for the museum, confirmed the acquisition, but said the piece would not be on permanent display. It’s under discussion as to when the photograph will go on view, she said.

“We are delighted to acquire this magnificent portrait of Beyoncé,” Leslie Ureña, associate curator of photographs for the museum, said in a statement. “This particular work brought us closer to Beyoncé’s words, appearing within the magazine’s pages, and showing us more of the historic shoot.”

Beyoncé and Jay-Z enjoyed a night at the Beverly Hilton hotel on Thursday, where they accepted the Vanguard Award at the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles.

After receiving introductions from Janet Mock, Beyoncé’s stylist Ty Hunter, Lena Waithe, and a full supercut of Beyoncé songs performed by Shangela, hip hop’s first couple took the stage. The rapper wore a pink tux jacket with black pants, while the singer wore a black tuxedo jacket dress.
