OTR Tour: Opening Outfit & Rehearsals

Klaudia//June 27, 2014
Beyoncé and Jay Z’s On The Run Tour opened in Miami with Beyoncé outfitted in Versace for the first performance of the night, “’03 Bonnie and Clyde.”

Beyoncé took the stage wearing a custom-made Versace leotard partially crafted with see-through net featuring a full-plunge front, paired with a corresponding netted mask.

Versace’s fashion house spoke on the outfit’s inspiration saying, “For the show looks, we wanted to keep true to the songs on the album. We were inspired by the gangster, Hip-Hop feel” and referred to the opening look as “a sexy bandit on the run.”

The entire show opening look took approximately 200 hours to craft.

Be sure to watch a new video from tour rehearsals below.

Beyonce Lands Series of HBO Concert Segments

Beyonce is heading back to HBO.

Following her 2013 documentary Life Is But a Dream, Beyonce will return to the premium network for a series of four-minute concert segments from her Mrs. Carter World Tour called Beyonce: X10.

The 10 installments will air every Sunday evening at 8:55 p.m. ET/PT ahead of the seventh and final season of True Blood beginning June 29.

Taped performances of "Blow/Cherry," "Drunk in Love," "Ghost/Haunted," "Flawless/Yonce," "Get Me Bodied/Baby Boy/Diva," "Girls," "Heaven," "Partition," "Why Don't You Love Me?" and "XO" will air as part of the series.

The performances were shot in various cities around the world from Beyonce's Mrs. Carter World Tour. The tour began in April 2013 in Belgrade, Serbia and ended in March 2014 in Lisbon, Portugal. It was the highest-grossing female solo tour in 2013.

Jay Z & Beyonce's On The Run Tour Isn't Struggling

Klaudia//June 19, 2014
Despite what you've heard, demand appears high for Jay Z and Beyonce's On The Run tour.

Multiple published reports that the upcoming Jay-Z/Beyonce co-headlining stadium tour -- set to begin in Miami on June 25 and wrap in San Francisco Aug. 5 -- is struggling, or that ticket sales are "dismal," are inaccurate, Billboard has learned.

Sources close to the Live Nation-produced tour tell Billboard that, as of June 17, the tour has racked up about $86 million in ticket sales and is on a pace to gross close to $100 million from just 19 shows. The source says attendance is on a pace to top 850,000 tickets sold, and a Live Nation rep confirmed to Billboard last night that the tour is indeed nearing that threshold. That’s a whopping nightly take of $5.2 million, and an average attendance of nearly 45,000 per show -- well more than two sold-out arena shows would generate in any given market. Numerous shows are sold out, and Live Nation cites "unprecedented" VIP and platinum ticket sales.

Two days later, Live Nation offered this statement to Billboard: "The On The Run Tour opens next Wednesday in Miami’s Sun Life Stadium to over 48,000 fans, then rolls to Cincinnati to a sellout crowd of more than 37,000 fans, and on July 1st more than 50,000 fans will pack Boston’s Gillette Stadium. With sellout nights across North America, these first three shows are indicative of the strong demand. Overall, the tour has sold well over 750,000 tickets, grossing more than $90 million, and has unprecedented VIP and Platinum ticket sales."

Those types of numbers would make On The Run one of the most successful tours of the year, with quite possibly the highest per-show average in terms of gross and attendance of any tour on the road this year. That is not unexpected; while both Beyonce and Jay-Z toured extensively in 2013, their audiences do not completely overlap, and their profile as music’s “power couple” gives the pairing the type of “event” status coveted in the live music industry.

How Beyoncé and Jay Z's Star-Studded Trailer Got Made

Klaudia//May 28, 2014
If fans were excited for Beyoncé and Jay Z to hit the road together on this summer’s On The Run Tour, it’s safe to say things ramped up even more when the power couple released a completely unexpected, star-studded faux movie trailer earlier this month. Featuring a gun-wielding Beyoncé, a gangster Jay, and cameos from A-list Hollywood royalty including Sean Penn, Jake Gyllenhaal, Blake Lively, and Don Cheadle, the trailer—technically a music video for Jay’s "Part II (On the Run)"—was a gloriously epic shock to the system.

But how did it all come together? And even though the words “Coming Never” flash on the screen at the video’s end, will we ever see this become an actual feature-length film? We turned to the film’s director, former Beyoncé creative director and Grammy-winning music video bigwig, Melina Matsoukas, for those answers and more. The filmmaker, who has worked with everyone from Rihanna to Solange and Lady Gaga, revealed to ELLE.com how Beyoncé and Jay transformed into action stars, which actor dropped everything for their cameo, and why she considers the Carters family.

This 'Run' video was straight-up epic. Take me through the process of how it came to life.

Obviously I’ve worked with Beyoncé quite a bit; I know Jay through the years. We’ve been trying to work together for a couple of his albums and it just never came to fruition. I’d been dying to work with him and I love working with her, so it just felt like the perfect combination. With this song, it’s actually a music video—I know everyone’s calling it a trailer, which I guess it is as well. But it’s a music video for his song “Part II (On The Run).” I feel like in Jay’s career he doesn’t want to just do a normal music video. So we were trying to come up with a way to visualize the song that wasn’t something that we’ve seen before. So I came up with this whole movie trailer idea and it just kind of progressed from there. We were talking about trying to hide the fact that it was a music video, and the idea was to release this trailer for this blockbuster that you’ll never see.

'On The Run' Stylists Dish on The Details

Klaudia//May 21, 2014
Stylists Mariel Haenn and June Ambrose take us behind the looks of Beyoncé and Jay-Z's dangerously chic fashion moments from the 'On The Run' concert trailer.

On The Run
"This was a streetwear chick-inspired look while 'On The Run.' A cropped fur, leather bra and cut-off shorts were the perfect bad girl fit," said Mariel Haenn who styled Beyoncé for the 'On The Run' concert trailer.

Empire State of Mind
"I love when Bey reps New York because she's really repping her man, and what better way than a vintage Don Mattingly T-shirt cut-off with a little under boob. The vibe was casual and intimate while they were just hanging in their hotel room."

Down & Dirty
"This was one of our faves! I mean since she repped New York, we felt like this sequined and fringed bandana print body suit with cut-off shorts was the perfect way to rep where she's from: Texas," dished Haenn.
