Beyonce Top Choice to Voice Nala in ‘Lion King’ Remake

Klaudia//March 31, 2017
Disney’s “Lion King” live-action reboot is getting in formation.

Sources tell Variety that Beyonce is director Jon Favreau’s top choice to voice Nala in the upcoming remake.

Insiders stress that the Grammy winner has not made a decision regarding the film yet, as the star is pregnant with twins. But since it’s a voice-acting role, sources say the studio and director will do whatever it takes to accommodate her schedule. The songstress announced her pregnancy in early February and dropped out as a Coachella headliner by month’s end. Lady Gaga will replace the “Single Ladies” singer at the desert music and arts festival next month.

Donald Glover is on board to voice Simba and James Earl Jones is reprising his role as Simba’s father, Mufasa.

Favreau is directing with Jeff Nathanson writing. The film is being fast-tracked, even as Favreau begins development on his sequel to the recent hit “The Jungle Book.”

“Lion King” was originally released in 1994 and is one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, ultimately hauling $968.5 million worldwide.

The studio’s emphasis on live-action adaptations follows the successes of “Alice in Wonderland” (2010), “Maleficent” (2014), “Cinderella” (2015), and, most recently, “Beauty and the Beast.”

This would mark Beyonce’s first film role since lending her voice to the Fox animated film”Epic.” Her other major movie credits include the 2009 thriller “Obsessed,” 2006 movie musical “Dreamgirls,” and 2002 Mike Myers comedy “Austin Powers in Goldmember.”

Beyoncé Announces 3 New Flavors of WTRMLN WTR

Klaudia//March 9, 2017
Thirsty for more Beyoncé? You’re in luck.

WTRMLN WTR, the cold pressed watermelon juice that the singer invested in less than a year ago, is expanding with three new flavors: ginger lemon, lime and tart cherry. Like the classic juice, the new “BLNDS”—which will be available exclusively at Whole Foods through July for $3.99 per 12 oz. bottle—will use the entire watermelon, rind and all.

“Congratulations to my partners at WTRMLN WTR,” the expectant mom said of the company’s co-founders, Jody Levy and Harlan Berger. “I applaud the innovative female leaders at WTRMLN WTR, who inspire us with their creativity and their true commitment to elevating our community and culture.”

Not only do the drinks give back to your body with detoxifying and alkalizing benefits, but they also give back to the community through the Whole Planet Foundation.

According to a statement, “For every sale of any new WTRMLN BLND, proceeds will provide micro-loans to women around the world to begin their own businesses and lift themselves out of poverty. The partnership with Whole Planet Foundation will impact female entrepreneurs and small businesses around the globe.”

Cal Poly to teach class on Beyoncé

Klaudia//February 26, 2017
The Cal Poly ethnic studies department is mixing pop culture and academia by offering a class on Beyoncé Knowles-Carter Spring 2017. The class is called Beyoncé: Race, Feminism, and Politics (ES 470).

The syllabus is modeled after Beyoncé’s visual album “Lemonade.” Each week the class will cover one of the 12 themes Beyoncé covers in the album: intuition, denial, anger, apathy, emptiness, loss, accountability, reformation, forgiveness, resurrection, hope and redemption.

The class will culminate in a Beyoncé conference called “Cal Poly Bey Day,” which will consist of a screening of “Lemonade,” faculty and student presentations, panels on Beyoncé’s work and student performances set to Beyoncé’s music.

The class will also construct an altar dedicated to Beyoncé and women of color who have been subject to police violence. The altar will be based on the African American Policy Forum’s “Say Her Name” Campaign.

Jenell Navarro, a self-described unapologetic Beyoncé fan, will be the first to teach the course at Cal Poly.

“We were looking at women icons of color in the 21st century and no one can deny Beyoncé that title,” assistant professor Navarro said.

Beyonce Cancels Coachella Performance

Klaudia//February 23, 2017
Beyoncé, who is pregnant with twins, will not perform at Coachella this year, but will headline the festival in 2018.

In a statement to The Associated Press on Thursday (Feb. 23), Beyoncé's Parkwood Entertainment and festival producer Goldenvoice said the pop star had to pull out of the famed festival under doctor's orders.

"Following the advice of her doctors to keep a less rigorous schedule in the coming months, Beyoncé has made the decision to forgo performing at the 2017 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival," the statement said. "However, Goldenvoice and Parkwood are pleased to confirm that she will be a headliner at the 2018 festival. Thank you for your understanding."

It was not clear who will perform in her absence. Radiohead and Kendrick Lamar will also headline the two-weekend festival in Indio, California. Radiohead will perform on April 14 and 21, and Lamar on April 16 and 23.

Beyoncé was originally set to perform April 15 and 22. It would have marked her first time she performed at the festival, and she would have been the first female act to headline Coachella since Bjork in 2007.

If you’re a Beyoncé fan who’s still fuming about her Grammy snubs, you’re in luck. There’s now a game that will let you channel your own Lemonade Rage.

Created by Joe Laquite, Justin Au, Line Johnsen, and Colby Spear, the free 8-bit online game is themed around the Formation singer’s “Hold Up” music video—complete with an 8 Bit Universe cover of the song as the soundtrack—and features Beyoncé in her iconic yellow dress, wielding her hot sauce bat.

Players take on the role of Queen Bey herself as they walk down the street, smashing objects like cars, hydrants, and even ads for good hair, in an effort to earn the lemons with which to make lemonade. Players must also maneuver around obstacles like “haterz,” “Illuminati conspiracists,” and “bulls—” to keep her from getting angrier.

CeeLo Green Shares Love Letter to Beyonce

Klaudia//February 15, 2017
Like just about everyone else, CeeLo Green is in love with Beyonce. And he's making it known this Valentine's Day.

In a new music video released Tuesday (Feb. 14) under Green's new Gnarly Davidson moniker, the Goodie Mob emcee gives Rick Springfield's classic 1980s rocker "Jessie's Girl" an update to profess his admiration of pop culture's biggest crush with "Jay Z's Girl."

The John Colombo-directed clip stars Little Fun as CeeLo's stand in, first confessing he's probably Jay Z's biggest fan before admitting his love for Hova's wife, The Queen Bey.

"Jay Z is the king," he sings, dancing around a room plastered with Beyonce posters. "And I'm probably his biggest fan/ But there's a feeling inside that I'm sure he'd understand/ I'm in love with Bey and I wanna be her man."

Beyoncé’s Choreographer Talks Grammys & Coachella

Klaudia//February 15, 2017
Always one to “cause all this conversation,” Beyoncé had fans and Grammys viewers alike buzzing about her performance Sunday night.

At the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, the expectant diva, 35, took the stage to perform her restrained Lemonade tracks “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles.” Complete with video montages, holograms, and a precariously placed chair, her 10-minute set had the audience rapt — and occasionally scratching their heads!

PEOPLE caught up with JaQuel Knight, Beyoncé’s longtime choreographer (you can thank him for that iconic “Single Ladies” wrist twist!), who opened up about how “mind-blowing” it is to work with Queen Bey, what her goddess-inspired Grammys performance meant — and if she’ll take the stage at Coachella!

How did last night’s performance come together?

We’ve been working five weeks on this, since January, and then we also just started developing the number “Love Drought” right after Tour, so the number’s been in development for a while.
