Beyonce And NCLA Team Up For Nail Wrap Collection

Klaudia//December 2, 2014
When it comes to Beyoncé, “you have to be prepared for the unexpected,” says the singer’s longtime manicurist Lisa Logan. As proof, this morning at 10:15, the queen of the stealth media reveal launched a well-edited selection of nail wraps in collaboration with Logan and the Los Angeles–based beauty company NCLA on Shop.Beyonce.com—this on the heels of last week’s release of two new singles and one very viral music video.

Among other things, Beyoncé certainly has nail influence—whether through her Instagrammed manicures, live performances (who could forget her chromatic fingertips at President Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration), or music videos, where she spotlighted NCLA nail art.

Pulled from Beyoncé’s work, the patterns are meant to evoke the plaid shirts she wears while power-tossing her hair in the video for “***Flawless,” the rainbow bright lights that set the Rollergirl tone in “Blow,” the sparkling Tom Ford mosaic bodysuit and fishnets she donned onstage at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, and the scrawl of her notebook including lyrics like “H-Town vicious.” With drying time removed from the equation, the press-on strips are primed for a spontaneous quick change. Because, as Logan puts it, “You can never peg what wants to wear or who she wants to be that day—you have to be able to switch it up.”

OTR Fashion Lineup: Versace & Givenchy

Klaudia//September 15, 2014
Beyonce.com was updated with sketches and short descriptions of the four new tour outfits.

Versace designed the look, a bodysuit made from transparent tulle with black vinyl boning, with the term “Bandit Beyoné” in mind for the opening of the Paris leg of the On The Run Tour. Versace described the outfit as “Strong and powerful; perfect for an incredible opening in Paris!”

For the first of the two final On The Run shows in Paris, Beyoncé called on Givenchy to add a new look to the tour wardrobe. The look, a black bodysuit with mesh, leather and studded additives was inspired by a fusion of ’70s bondage, mermaid and pinups.

OTR Fashion Lineup: Michael Costello

Klaudia//August 9, 2014
With just a few shows left for the On The Run Tour, Beyoncé pulled out yet another look from Project Runway alum, Michael Costello.

For the performance of “Drunk in Love,” Beyoncé swapped out the black Victorian lace bodysuit, also by Costello, in favor of a fire engine red body suit with bell sleeves also by Costello. According to Michael Costello, a red rose that would later be placed at the neck of the bodysuit inspired the entire look.

“I wanted to make it feel like the sexiest thing I’ve ever done, so I decided to have it cut higher and make the back open to show more skin. I chose a very Latin-inspired red lace with stretch to the fabric so it would fit her like a glove. I choose to do the leaves and appliqués in black beads and the roses were hand made and took about 12 hours to make,” said Costello.

In it’s finished state, the body suit had more than 72 hours of work put into it.

On the Run Tour in Winnipeg

Klaudia//July 28, 2014
Beyonce and Jay-Z performed during the On The Run tour at Investors Group Field on Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The singer posted details on her Ring the Alarm outfit on Beyonce.com:

For the performance of “Ring the Alarm” during the On The Run show, Beyoncé takes the stage in a couture Vrettos Vrettakos ‘crystal spirit’ bodysuit designed by Dennis Kolpodinos.

The red look is complete with fringe details on the limbs and is embellished with Swarovski crystals for stage-ready shine.

OTR Fashion Lineup: Givenchy

Klaudia//July 26, 2014
For the performance of “If I Were A Boy” Beyoncé mixes feminine and masculine in a leather look custom designed by Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy.

The jumpsuit, coined ‘BBB17’ by Tisci and his team for the inscription embroidered on the back of the look, is worn with the front unzipped.

Riccardo elaborates on the inspiration behind the jumpsuit saying, “she wears a bra and panties but she has a masculine boxy leather jumpsuit on top. Everything is so versatile about her. […] So we played with that, we added masculine to feminine. She is all about paradox. She is an entertainer and a mother, she is strong and sweet and we wanted the clothes to feel that way too.”

On the Run Tour in Dallas

Klaudia//July 23, 2014
Beyonce and Jay-Z performed during the On The Run tour at AT & T Stadium on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in Dallas, Texas.

The singer posted details on her Resentment/Love on Top outfit on Beyonce.com:

During the On The Run Tour, Beyoncé takes the stage to perform ‘Resentment’ and ‘Love on Top’ wearing a bridal-themed look from Lebanese designer Elie Saab.

The Jasmine white long-sleeve lace-embellished jumpsuit features a Chantilly lace construction and formfitting silhouette. The jumper is a piece from the designer’s Pre-Fall 2014 collection.

OTR Fashion Lineup: Diesel

Klaudia//July 20, 2014
Following Diesel’s colossal return to the runway earlier this year with new creative director Nicola Formichetti at the helm, Diesel’s team was called in to provide a few looks for the On The Run Tour.

Formichetti first worked with Beyoncé in 2010 during the video production of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone,” but this time around the inspiration came from a different place.

“When we embarked upon this exciting project our main aim was to showcase her strength, her sexiness and her power as a female of modern day,” Formichetti says of the designs. “Taking inspiration from her amazing videos combined with the Bonnie a Clyde style show, it was very important for us to create something modern that was true to her and true to Diesel.”

While the denim’s presence was played up with the shorts in the look, the leather Texas jacket took on a life of its own.

“We were inspired by the biker gangs that developed in the United States after World War II. The bikers would personalize their jackets with tokens of their travels and memorabilia to remind them of home. Beyoncé’s jacket proudly displays her home state of TEXAS on the back as a reminder of her roots. There are hints of blue paint hidden on the jacket as an ode to her daughter Blue Ivy. We loved the idea that no matter where Beyoncé travels to she will always have a piece of home.”

Putting Texas on the back of Beyoncé’s jacket took 4-5 hours.

Beyonce exhibit to debut at Rock Hall-Museum

Klaudia//July 20, 2014
A fashion exhibit centered on Beyonce will debut at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in a section previously featuring only Hall of Famers.

The Rock Hall announced Friday that outfits from Beyonce's Super Bowl performance and music videos will debut Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in the Ahmet Ertegun Main Exhibit Hall in its Legends of Rock section, next to iconic pieces from Michael Jackson, David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen.

The 32-year-old Beyonce would be eligible for induction into the Rock Hall as a member of Destiny's Child in 2022 and as a solo artist in 2027.

The exhibit in Cleveland, Ohio, will feature Beyonce's ubiquitous black leotard from her "Single Ladies" music video, as well as her body suit, skirt and jacket from her Super Bowl performance last year in New Orleans.

Rock Hall curator Meredith Rutledge-Borger said they have been trying to court Beyonce "for a really long time."

"When we looked at the depth of the amount of stuff that she was willing to send, we just thought, 'The only way we can really showcase these items is to put them in the Legends of Rock area in the museum,' which really is the spot that we have to pay tribute to legends of rock, which Beyonce has proven herself to be," she said in an interview.

OTR Fashion Lineup: Michael Costello

Klaudia//July 11, 2014
During the latest On The Run Tour stop in Baltimore, Beyoncé revealed a new look to the show’s wardrobe lineup, pulling in her third piece from Project Runway alum Michael Costello.

Worn during the performance of ‘Single Ladies,’ Beyoncé revisited a leotard for the song in a delicate black and gold lace bodysuit by the designer. Costello elaborated on his inspiration for look saying, “I wanted Beyoncé to feel beautiful, strong, super sexy and ventilated. I thought, ‘If I was Beyoncé how would I want to look and feel.’ I didn’t want her to feel overheated like she was in armor or too hot on stage during her performance. I wanted to create something very free and easy to dance in all while being sexy.

How she feels in my clothes is important to me. I was inspired by the ‘Single Ladies’ video and how she looked on there.”

While the look is undoubtedly a stunner, it is one that came together rather quickly. “I had to create a look fast and Ty encouraged me, he said he didn’t want me to miss out on this opportunity. I made the look in two hours. I had that fabric for a long time and I wanted to use it specifically for Beyoncé. I did a cut out lace and created exactly what I envisioned. The back has a beautiful detail with a black and gold zipper,” Said Costello.

While the inspiration for each look of Costello’s Beyoncé wears may differ, the end goal is always the same to the designer, “I just always want Beyoncé to feel confident, free and beautiful in my clothes.”

OTR Fashion Lineup: Alexander Wang

Klaudia//July 9, 2014
During the second half of the On The Run show, Beyoncé’s wardrobe makes a switch from the mesh masks and bodysutits of designers like Versace and Michael Costello in favor of an all black look from New York City-based designer Alexander Wang.

The Alexander Wang look is a riff off of an urban bomber hoodie jacket that was cropped to expose a bondage bodysuit underneath that has graphic cutouts. When worn up, the oversized hood covers the face, adding an incognito element reminiscent of the On The Run theme.

According to the brand, the materials used for the pieces include a 3-D sport mesh, compact bondage leather and an exotic snake—all in shades of black to create a slick urban feel.

Both the bomber jacket and the bodysuit required intensive handwork. The bomber sleeves have exotic snake skin seamed into the aero foam mesh strip-by-strip, and the bodysuit has a custom-made nylon ladder embroidery which gives the visual illusion of sheer cutouts and is seamed in piece-by-piece to the leather.

OTR Fashion Lineup: Versace

Klaudia//July 7, 2014
After opening the On The Run Tour alongside Jay Z in a black netted bodysuit by Versace, Beyoncé enlisted the designer for a second look featuring their iconic logo on a fully embellished long-sleeve bodysuit.

Versace spoke of the inspiration behind the custom wardrobe piece saying, “we looked to the street for color and vitality. We came back with iconic Versace prints embellished with crystals and see-through tracksuits with Swarovski stripes, for a baseball vibe.”

As for Versace’s ultimate goal, aside from making a tour piece that could withstand the movement of performance, a rep from the brand says, “We wanted to capture the energy and coolness that is Beyoncé.”

OTR Fashion Lineup: Michael Costello

Klaudia//July 3, 2014
After dressing Beyoncé for events that ranged from the Mrs. Carter Show Tour to the 2014 Grammy’s, Michael Costello’s design talents were called in once again to complete wardrobe looks for the On The Run Tour.

During the show, Beyoncé performs in two looks from Costello, one of which is a dramatic black Victorian lace bodysuit. According to Costello, the inspiration was” a very cathedral, romantic, Victorian feel” coupled with his personal music taste.

“My inspiration comes from Beyoncé because I’m a true, die-hard Beyoncé fan, but I think it’s her hair and the way that she moves—I try to use that and mimic that into the clothing. Whether it’s a sequin, a button, or a dramatic sleeve. If you see the dramatic sleeves I did for the Beyoncé lace Victorian bodysuit—the black one—I wanted something she could move in and look stunning in when she’s onstage,” Costello said.

According to the Project Runway alum, the Victorian bodysuit Beyoncé wears for the tour is a product of 72 hours of construction, followed by another 48 hours just to put the entire piece together. “I can make them in an hour or two —especially a performance piece—but that one was a little more intricate with a lot of detail, and we had to go by some really precise measurements. I just wanted to make that one extra special. So, I’d say about five days total for that one piece,” Costello says of the outfit. Of the final look, Costello said, “I had to try to think danceable. Ty was telling me, ‘be fabulous. Be who you are. Do exactly what you do—we love what you do. But, make it danceable.’ So, I think that’s the approach that I wanted to try and take for everything for her, to find a way to make it Michael Costello, for Beyoncé, for On the Run Tour, but danceable.”

OTR Fashion Lineup: Givenchy

Klaudia//July 1, 2014
Beyoncé and Jay Z enlisted the talents of designer favorite Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy for the finale of their On The Run Tour, and the outcome was monochrome patriotism.

According to Givenchy, Beyoncé’s finale look, a detachable black and white American flag skirt, featured a train that is 5 meters long (16.4 ft.) and actually isn’t a skirt at all, it is in fact a giant shirt tied around the waist. While the flag is 5 meters long, it only weighs 500 grams (1.10 lbs.) allowing for it to fly well on stage.

The outfit took over 500 hours to make and all of the stars on the flag are hand-embroider in white thread for a mega couture finish. As for the inspiration for the look, according to Givenchy, “the inspiration is the American Danger: Bonnie & Clyde with a modern twist.”

OTR Tour: Opening Outfit & Rehearsals

Klaudia//June 27, 2014
Beyoncé and Jay Z’s On The Run Tour opened in Miami with Beyoncé outfitted in Versace for the first performance of the night, “’03 Bonnie and Clyde.”

Beyoncé took the stage wearing a custom-made Versace leotard partially crafted with see-through net featuring a full-plunge front, paired with a corresponding netted mask.

Versace’s fashion house spoke on the outfit’s inspiration saying, “For the show looks, we wanted to keep true to the songs on the album. We were inspired by the gangster, Hip-Hop feel” and referred to the opening look as “a sexy bandit on the run.”

The entire show opening look took approximately 200 hours to craft.

Klaudia//May 21, 2014
Stylists Mariel Haenn and June Ambrose take us behind the looks of Beyoncé and Jay-Z's dangerously chic fashion moments from the 'On The Run' concert trailer.

On The Run
"This was a streetwear chick-inspired look while 'On The Run.' A cropped fur, leather bra and cut-off shorts were the perfect bad girl fit," said Mariel Haenn who styled Beyoncé for the 'On The Run' concert trailer.

Empire State of Mind
"I love when Bey reps New York because she's really repping her man, and what better way than a vintage Don Mattingly T-shirt cut-off with a little under boob. The vibe was casual and intimate while they were just hanging in their hotel room."

Down & Dirty
"This was one of our faves! I mean since she repped New York, we felt like this sequined and fringed bandana print body suit with cut-off shorts was the perfect way to rep where she's from: Texas," dished Haenn.

Beyonce and Jay-Z attended the 'Charles James: Beyond Fashion' Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5, 2014 in New York City. The singer wore a dress, headpiece and shoes by Givenchy, and jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz. The outfit was inspired by the disco era and Diana Ross' 1970s glam. After the event, the couple went to an after party at The Standard Hotel.

Mrs. Carter's Fashion: Tour With Beyoncé's Stylist Ty Hunter

Klaudia//April 9, 2014
Ty Hunter, Beyoncé's stylist, was working at a boutique in Houston when he first met Beyoncé’s mother, Miss Tina, then on the hunt for outfits for Destiny’s Child. That was back in 1998. Hundreds of red carpet outfits and tour dates later, Hunter has seen Beyoncé blossom into a grown woman—and a fashion icon. Here, he discusses the best stage looks from her eye-popping extravaganza, the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour.

Dsquared2

"The opening look in Louisville, Ky, for the 100th show of the tour. When we started planning for the Mrs. Carter Show, we had a meeting about the designers Beyoncé wanted to work with. Dsquared2 actually sent this suit as a red carpet option for the Grammys. We went for something else, but we always kept this outfit in mind. It's embellished with Swarovski crystals in an antique gold color. The shoes are by Stuart Weitzman."

Versace

"Versace sent us some sketches, and Beyoncé loved all the costumes. This one was one of Beyoncé's favorite, a jacket with 'Bow Down' and the number 4 written on the back. She wore it to open her Birmingham show."
