Teyana Taylor Recalls Choreographing for Beyoncé at Age 15

Klaudia//October 16, 2025
Many artists dream of eventually working with Beyoncé at some point in their careers. Teyana Taylor got the opportunity as a teenager.

The singer, dancer and actress appears on an upcoming episode of UNINTERRUPTED and Indeed’s The Main Thing series. PEOPLE can exclusively premiere a clip of her talking about getting hired to choreograph Queen Bey’s 2006 “Ring the Alarm” video at age 15.

“I got the call, and I, like, literally jumped up,” recalls Taylor, 34. “[I] had my skateboard with me, like, I went in and was like, ‘Hey Everybody!’ And she was like, ‘She’s a star.’”

The One Battle After Another star detailed spending time with Beyoncé “face to face, knees bumping” while they worked on the music video.

“And then it’s just like, what I love the most is dancing and then letting me sit there and add more stuff, ‘cause you know there are plenty of choreographers that are a part of it. I wasn’t the only one,” she said.

Taylor then spoke about Beyoncé’s collaborative nature. “To see her be able to take direction and not feeling like, ‘Well, girl, you know came here for one little thing.’ Because, you know, that Harlem in me… I’m leaving here with something! You feel me? I gave you chicken noodle soup, I’ll give you some more,” explained the star.

The “Ring the Alarm” music video, directed by Sophie Muller and inspired by Basic Instinct, was released in August 2006. The song itself marked the second single from Beyoncé’s B’Day album and peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

At the end of August 2006, Beyoncé performed the song at the MTV Video Music Awards. “And then she brought me back for the VMAs, so I thought that that was pretty cool,” said Taylor on The Main Thing.

“I was too young to perform, but she was like, ‘Can we get her a coat? Can we get her in a coat?’ She was so amazing, and that’s one person that will forever have my respect, ‘cause you know this is a wicked, wicked industry,” she continued.
