Destiny's Child Proving They've 'Still Got It,' Michelle Says

Klaudia//January 29, 2013
After eight years of passionately pursuing solo projects, which have included both music and acting, the ladies of Destiny's Child finally reunited this year to release "Nuclear," an original single that will appear on their upcoming compilation album, Love Songs. And as Michelle Williams tells it, the trio haven't lost their vibe one bit.

"It was a bunch of fun. It was just picking up right where we left off," Williams told MTV News of collaborating with Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé on the Pharrell Williams-produced single. "The harmonies and just us stacking ... Beyoncé laid hers first, then I'd go and lay another note to the bottom, and I'm like, 'Wow, this is dope.' I literally got goose bumps. Beyoncé sent an email like, 'Man, we sound good together!' I'm like, 'Duh, that's what we do, boo! That's what we do!' "

In addition to "Nuclear," Love Songs will feature 13 additional tracks, including "Say My Name" and "Emotions," all of which were handpicked by the ladies. "Since it was titled Love Songs, it was like, 'What are some of the best love songs ?' You've got 'Cater 2 U' then you've got 'If' — meaning you're not doing right, but I still love you — then the title song 'Love' from the Destiny Fulfilled album."

Michelle said the most difficult part of selecting songs for the compilation fell on Beyoncé and Kelly, who had to look way back to their teenage years. "I think what was harder for them was to go back even before I got in the group, to the archive from when they were 12 and 13 years old singing about love," she explained. "I think it might've been a little more difficult for them to choose those songs, but it really was fun. I was cracking up when we were compiling the artwork and we could tell which pictures were good budget, low budget, records sold, not that many sold."

Destiny's Child fans have been pining for a reunion for years, and though the ladies couldn't deliver a full album, they hoped to satiate that hunger with the compilation. "We really did it for the fans," Michelle said when asked if we could expect more music anytime soon. "We're not promising anything, but we just wanted to say, 'Hey, we still got it,' and we just wanted to give fans something just to say thank you and that we really love you. Because without you, we wouldn't be what we are. We wouldn't be able to do it without the fans."

With Love Songs due at the end of the month and Beyoncé set to take the stage at the Super Bowl halftime show just days later, rumors are heating up that Michelle and Kelly will join her onstage to complete the reunion special. Us Weekly reports that they will join Beyoncé halfway through her set to perform a medley of "Survivor," "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Nuclear," but if it's true, Michelle won't be the one to spill the beans.

"Unfortunately, I honestly can't say," she replied when asked about the possibility of a Super Bowl performance. "Just thinking about it gives me a headache. It seems quite impossible because of our own individual schedules. My opening night for 'Fela!' is January 29. I've been in rehearsals for that, so I haven't had time to think about learning anything else. But who knows? Maybe sometime in the future, five or 10 years from now, we'll see."

The good old "hectic schedules" excuse. On February 3, we'll find out once and for all.
