Beyonce Pens An Open Letter to Nelson Mandela

November 29, 2018

Beyonce posted an open letter to the late President Nelson Mandela ahead of her performance at the Global Citizen Festival on Sunday. The letter was also published in The Sowetan newspaper.

"Dear Madiba,

I first met you in 2004 for the 46664 AIDS Benefit Concert in Cape Town, and the impact you have had on my life resonates with me today and every day. Your kindness and gratitude for every experience, and your ability to forgive are lessons I have learned and will pass on to my three children. My entire family holds you in high regard.

It is an honor for me to travel to South Africa this week in celebration of you and your efforts to right so many wrongs. You were a strategic warrior, a bold activist, and charismatic and well-loved leader. Your vision for dignity, for human rights, for peace and a South Africa free of racism and apartheid, allows us all to turn dreams into reality.

Roseivyou Instagram account isn’t secretly for Beyoncé

October 24, 2018

Earlier this week, the mysterious Roseivyou Instagram account popped up leaving many to speculate it was a major hint that a new Beyoncé is on the way; a few guesses being a Netflix special and even a joint album with Kelly Rowland.

With the Queen's love of hints (like 2015 Instagram posts with lemons during a time she would likely have been working on 2016's Lemonade), it made sense to many that something was going on, coupled with a video Kelly Rowland posted of herself singing along to an unreleased track with the lyrics "Rose petals at my feet," and rose emojis in the video's caption just a week before the account showed up. A source close to Beyoncé tells The FADER, however, that this account has nothing to do with the singer.

Fans have been deconstructing the page and its posts in the last few days, figuring out that the vocals in the snippet are actually from Beyonce's "Grown Woman", despite the account amassing over 23k followers in just a few days.

I guess we can all unfollow now.

Beyoncé showed her support for the post-inauguration, anti-Trump Women's March in a Facebook post. "Together with Chime for Change, we raise our voices as mothers, artists, and as activists," she wrote. The rally will take place in Washington, D.C. and other cities around the world.

Chime for Change, a global campaign Beyoncé cofounded aims to empower women and is an official partner with the Saturday's event. "As #GlobalCitizens, we can make our voices heard and turn awareness into meaningful action and positive change."

The Women's March takes place the day after Donald Trump is sworn in as the 45th President of the United States. The march was organized in response to his misogynistic and prejudicial rhetoric he used throughout his campaign. Groups that feel attacked by Trump's derogatory remarks include: women, Mexican-Americans Muslim citizens and members and allies of the LGBTQIA community.

Artists like Katy Perry, Cher, Zendaya, Madonna and more have not only publicly supported the efforts of the Women's March but will also be in attendance at the event, which begins at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Independence Avenue and Third Street SW. At press time, there are 616 sister marches on record that will take place across the United States, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Read more...

Beyonce took to Instagram to encourage her fans to vote in the 2016 presidential election:

"The right to use our voice at the polling stations this Election Day is not a privilege that should be taken lightly. Throughout history, from the women’s suffrage movement to the Civil Rights Movement, this is a right that we had to fight to obtain. It was our power that put the first Black president into the White House, and it was our influence that changed the course of history. Exercising the right to vote is imperative to our democracy. Click the link in my bio for local voter information, and make sure your voice is heard at the polls on November 8th."
