Parkwood Is Undergoing an Executive Overhaul

Klaudia//February 5, 2016
Beyonce's Parkwood Entertainment company is getting an overhaul, with longtime GM Lee Anne Callahan-Longo leaving the company after five years, along with several other principals and staff members.

The move is part of a shift for the company as sources say Beyonce is relocating Parkwood's headquarters from New York to Los Angeles, where she spends the majority of her time. Parkwood's head of digital Lauren Wirtzer-Seawood left the company to join Instagram in November 2015 -- former Pledge Music executive Dan Ghosh-Roy took on that role in December -- and Callahan-Longo left before the end of the year. Steve Pamon, who ran the sports and entertainment marketing department at JP Morgan Chase since 2011, also came aboard as Chief Operating Officer in December as remaining staff began shifting to the West Coast.

Pamon was responsible for Chase Bank's sponsorship deal for Beyonce and Jay Z's On The Run stadium tour in 2014, which brought in an estimated 850,000 fans and grossed more than $100 million. He'll be tasked with running the day to day operations for Parkwood moving forward.

“Last year, Parkwood Entertainment created new departments and recruited new executives from the tech, business and entertainment sectors who joined the team to help grow Parkwood and its interests," Beyonce's rep Yvette Noel-Schure said in a statement provided to Page Six -- which also reported that former Warner Bros. Records exec Peter Thea is now working at Parkwood -- adding that senior staff were offered a chance to "reposition and stay on," while others decided to leave the company. "Lee Anne Callahan-Longo has worked with Beyonce for the last 10 years. Their friendship supersedes business, and while she is no longer an employee of Parkwood, she will remain an imperative part of Beyonce’s life."

Beyonce has one album remaining on her current deal with Columbia, but has been relatively quiet on the music front outside of a guest appearance on Coldplay's December LP A Head Full of Dreams. She's scheduled to join the band during its halftime set at the Super Bowl this Sunday, Feb. 7.

Beyonce's reps declined further comment.

Coldplay won't do Hymn For The Weekend at Super Bowl

Klaudia//February 5, 2016
Coldplay won't perform 'Hymn For The Weekend with Beyonce at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show.

The 'Single Ladies' singer provided uncredited guest vocals on the group's latest single, and though she'll be joining them on stage at the sporting spectacular on Sunday (02.07.16), it won't be on that track as the band feel it is too new.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday (02.04.16), frontman Chris Martin said: "It only just came out, so I don't think it would be quite right. We love Beyonce's music. She's one of our all-time favourites, and she's one of the greatest performers I've ever witnessed.

Everyone who does this show knows it's the biggest honour."

Beyonce featured in "Hymn for The Weekend" music video!

Klaudia//January 28, 2016
After an impromptu performance at a watering hole in Delhi's hip Hauz Khas last July, British rock band Coldplay took their India connection to the next level with a subsequent visit to Mumbai to shoot the music video for their new single, "Hymn for The Weekend" in October.

Now Sonam Kapoor does a cameo in the song, which is the second single of the band's seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams. When contacted, the elated actress confirmed the news, "I love Coldplay's music and so does the world. It was a huge honour to be a part of the video. It's a great concept and I had a lot of fun shooting for it."

The 30-year-old actress plays a mystical muse in the video directed by Ben Mor. "Sonam shot for a day last October at the Golfa Devi Temple in Worli and the Vasai fort," informs a source close to the actress. The video also features American pop diva Beyonce, who has also lent her vocals to the track.

The single is a follow-up to the album's first number, "Adventure of a lifetime," which became the band's 21st UK Top 40 hit and stayed in the top 10 for six weeks.

Sonam's sister, Rhea Kapoor, who often styles her looks conceptualised her appearance for this video too. "They zeroed in on a desi look with Sonam in a ghagra choli and wearing the traditional mang tika and a nose ring," adds the source.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin sent the Indian social media into a meltdown when, accompanied by music composer Vishal Dadlani, actress Freida Pinto and members of the comedy collective, AIB, he turned up the Summer House cafe and belted out a few of the band's hits, including Paradise and Viva La Vida.

Martin and Freida had travelled to India with a non-profit organisation that is working to end extreme poverty by 2030.

How 'Lip Sync Battle' Booked (And Broke out With) Beyonce

Klaudia//January 16, 2016
Lip Sync Battle didn't just launch its second season as a hit for Spike, it solidified its status as one of the few fresh and formidable reality shows on cable.

The Jan. 7 opener has already grossed a network best 4.7 million viewers and 3.4 rating among adults 18-49 after just three days of DVR, an anomaly in a crowded unscripted landscape that's been long-starved for the hit. And while its live viewing alone was enough to top cable's Thursday offerings, a cameo by Beyonce during the showdown between husband-and-wife Channing and Jenna Dewan Tatum brought a 88 percent boost from time-shifting.

Beyonce's arrival, it turns out, was a year in the making.

"We don't choose the songs for the performers — it's always their choice — and, since day one, the most requested artist has been Beyonce," Casey Patterson, who executive produces the show alongside Matador Content's Jay Peterson, told The Hollywood Reporter. "She's been the holy grail, and we've always been in contact with her camp. They know when we're gearing up for production."

Lip Sync Battle relies on the interest and participation of artists and record labels to clear rights for celebrities' chosen songs, so Beyonce has apparently been long aware of the interest to use her material. She gave the green light for Channing Tatum to tackle "Run the World (Girls)," but it wasn't until the eve of production that she committed to appearing alongside the actor. "Channing, during one of his rehearsals, sent an iPhone video message to her about two days before the show," says Patterson. "Only Channing and Beyonce know the back and forth, but I think that's what put it over the top."

Beyoncé Confirmed to Perform at Super Bowl 50

Klaudia//January 8, 2016
It's official: Beyoncé is returning to the Super Bowl.

Pepsi, the sponsor of the halftime show, confirmed Thursday that the 20-time Grammy Award winner will be taking the stage alongside Coldplay at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Feb. 7. "Beyoncé has been in the talks to perform for sometime but it was all top secret," a source tells E! News exclusively. "Beyoncé is very excited to be at this years big Super Bowl. She can't wait."

Beyoncé first performed the national anthem before Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004 at the Reliant Stadium in Houston. She returned in 2013 to headline the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show, held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Beyoncé sang her biggest solo hits, including "Run the World (Girls)," "Love on Top," "Crazy in Love," "End of Time," "Baby Boy," "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Halo." She also invited Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams to join her in performing Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious" and "Independent Women Part I."

The performance resulted in a blackout and a record number of tweets.

Super Bowl 50 should be even bigger. "Performing in the past at the Super Bowl was one of her favorite performances," a source tells E! News exclusively. "She loved the energy of the crowd. She is a big fan of Coldplay and thinks it's going to be a fantastic performance by both of them."

Beyoncé, who is friends with frontman Chris Martin and his wife Gwyneth Patlrow, has been on the same bill as Coldplay a number of times, most recently at the 2015 Global Citizen Festival in New York's Central Park. Beyoncé and Coldplay also collaborated on the band's seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams.

Additional performers for Super Bowl 50 are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Beyonce 'In No Way Tied' to Saartjie Baartman Film

Klaudia//January 6, 2016
After rumors swirling that Beyonce would be writing and starring in a film about Saartjie (Sarah) Baartman -- the South African woman who appeared in freak shows because of her physical features during the 1800s -- the multi-hyphenate is denying her involvement.

"Beyonce is in no way tied to this project," her rep told Billboard in a statement (Jan. 5). "This is an important story that should be told, however."

Baartman -- shown off in exhibits under the name Hottentot Venus -- was made a spectacle across Europe, particularly England and Paris for her voluptuous shape. She died in 1815 at the age of 26 -- five years after her arrival in Europe -- but did not receive a proper burial in her native South Africa until 2002.

Jack Devnarain, chairman of the South African Guild of Actors, echoed Beyonce's sentiment, telling Billboard over e-mail that Baartman's story deserves recognition.

"The story of Saartjie Baartman is a tale of torture and humiliation of a woman, womanhood in general and an entire culture indigenous to Southern Africa. As an episode in South African history, it describes the crippling damage of racism, sexism and exploitation," he said. "Baartman was paraded as a freak and brutally robbed of her humanity. Her story needs to be told."

Beyoncé's Topshop Collection Already In Production

Klaudia//December 5, 2015
In the world of celebrity collaborations, this should take some beating. Beyoncé and Topshop’s long-awaited sportswear/steetwear line will hit stores next April and be sold in up to 25 markets.

Topshop boss Sir Philip Green is banking on the buzz around the range to help drive sales and footfall at Topshop stores.

But this is more than your average celebrity tie up. Queen B, as the star is affectionately known, has formed a 50-50 joint venture with Topshop to launch the brand, called ‘Parkwood Topshop Athletic’, and both parties are obviously hoping it will turn into a runaway success and long-term relationship.

According to WWD, the items from the new Topshop-Beyonce collection will include athleisure-inspired clothing, accessories, and footwear that embody a sporty lifestyle and are perfect for trotting from the gym to your favorite post-workout lunch stop.

“Based on what she does, how she works out, the conversation got into that category,” Topshop owner Sir Philip Green told WWD in October of 2014. Since then, the beloved star has shot the images for the campaign and is even testing each piece of clothing to make sure they’re fit for those wanting to look just like B. “She’s also tried everything on to make sure it’s right,” Green told WWD last week, adding that the items are currently “in production.”

It’s Topshop’s first shared venture and for Beyoncé, it’s her second apparel play, as she already owns the brand House of Dereon.

Sia dishes on writing sessions with Beyoncé

Klaudia//December 5, 2015
Sia Furler's forthcoming album, This Is Acting (due January 29th), has a novel concept: It's full of songs rejected by A-list artists. Furler has been successfully writing for music's biggest names, from Adele to Beyoncé, since she crossed over to writing pop music around five years ago, after solidifying herself as a Top 40 artist with her hit single "Chandelier." "I feel like they're hits, but nobody wanted them," she says of the tracks on the new LP, which have been written during the last few years. "So I thought, 'Let's see, as an experiment, if I'm right.'"

In anticipation of the album, Furler spoke in depth with Rolling Stone about pop music, her productivity and on becoming her clients' "bitch" in the studio.

What song or songs feel the most Sia to you? Which ones are you most connected with?
"One Million Bullets" is my baby. I had seller's remorse with "Bird Set Free" every time it went away and then came back. First it went to Rihanna and then it was returned. Then it went to Adele, and Adele cut it and sounded amazing on it. Then it was returned. The truth is that we wrote "Bird Set Free" for Pitch Perfect 2. They rejected it and took another song of ours called "Flashlight." That become a big thing through the movie, but I could not believe they rejected "Bird Set Free" because to me it was such a big, anthemic, fun, sing-along-in-the-car song. I felt seller's remorse. I had grief. I feel connected to that song. I feel connected to a song called "Footprints." That was a Beyoncé reject that I wrote in the Hamptons a couple years ago. I feel really connected to one song that I actually decided to leave off the album because I wanted to use it in the movie I'm directing next May. And I really like "Cheap Thrills" because I think it's fun. Those are the ones I actually feel most connected to, but the truth is I can't even remember the track listing because I've taken off songs, picked up another one so many times, I actually don't even know. I like one called "Broken Glass." That's another one, but I think that might only be a bonus track.
