Nicki Minaj Talks "Feeling Myself" Video

Klaudia//February 5, 2015
Nicki Minaj’s collaboration with Beyoncé on a remix of “Flawless” was one of the most electrifying musical moments of 2014. So when Minaj was recording her third album, The Pinkprint, Beyoncé was happy to return the favor by guesting on Minaj’s song “Feeling Myself” — lending that distinctive Yoncé swagger to Minaj’s ode to self-celebration of all kinds. (Good luck finding a better put-down than this one, courtesy of Minaj: “Bitches ain’t got punchlines or flow / I have both, and an empire, also.”)

In a new interview with TIME, on stands Feb. 6, Minaj opens up about the challenges of building her business, body image pressures in the music industry and the abortion she had as a teenager. But she also has a lot to say about her work with Bey.

“When I did ‘Flawless,’ she said that she would do something for The Pinkprint,” Minaj says. “I was ecstatic. She had ‘Feeling Myself’ — she wanted to know how I felt about it. I said, ‘I love it.’ I knew girls were going to be posting pictures on Instagram saying ‘#feelingmyself.’ I told Beyoncé that. I was like, ‘You already know what’s going to happen.'”

But both performers wanted to recreate the magic. “There was pressure,” Minaj says. “‘Flawless’ impacted so hard. But people seemed to love ‘Feeling Myself,’ too. I was excited that we got another one. With ‘Flawless,’ it makes girls feel good about themselves. You could say, ‘I’m feeling myself’ or ‘I’m flawless.’ It’s something every girl wants to say.”

Nicki Minaj Announces "Feeling Myself" As The Next Single

Klaudia//December 26, 2014
In news that should surprise absolutely no one, Nicki Minaj has selected Beyonce-featuring jam “Feeling Myself” as the next single from The Pinkprint. “Radio has really gravitated to their own songs, like I’m guessing ‘Feeling Myself’ is the next urban song,” the rap diva told Hot 97. “They picked it on their own.” It’s an absolute no-brainer given the success of their previous collaboration, “Flawless,” on urban radio and the song’s popularity on iTunes. In fact, “Feeling Myself” is currently best-selling track from The Pinkprint — even ahead of the femcee’s official new single “Only.” Listen to the interview below.

Beyoncé Earns Eighth No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs

Klaudia//December 12, 2014
In only its second week on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Beyoncé's "7/11" reaches No. 1, granting the singer her eighth chart-topping title as a solo artist.

Beyoncé is now in a three-way tie with Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys for the fourth-most No. 1s among women in the 56 years since the chart launched as a sales/airplay hybrid tally. Only Aretha Franklin (with 20 No. 1s), Janet Jackson (16), Mariah Carey (10) have more. (Gladys Knight has also accumulated 10 No. 1s, but nine of those came as part of the group Gladys Knight & The Pips.)

Beyoncé also tallied four No. 1s in 1998-2000 as part of the group Destiny's Child before reigning for the first time as a soloist with "Crazy in Love," featuring Jay Z, in 2003.

"7/11" -- one of the new songs on the deluxe reissue of Beyonce's self-titled album -- also earns the week's Streaming Gainer honors. It jumps 52 percent in domestic streams (from 7 to 11 million -- fitting, given its title) in the week ending Dec. 7, according to Nielsen Music. It leaps 12-2 on Streaming Songs, her highest appearance since "Drunk In Love," featuring Jay Z, spent four weeks atop the two-year old chart in February.

Bonus 'Beyonce' Bows on R&B/Hip-Hop Charts

Klaudia//December 5, 2014
Following a deluxe reissue of Beyonce's self-titled 2013 album, its sales soar by 713 percent to 22,000 in the week ending Nov. 30, according to Nielsen Music. It vaults 18-4 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, with Greatest Gainer honors. It's right behind Beyonce's new Beyonce (More Only) EP, which contains just the new bonus material from the deluxe album. Only opens at No. 3 with 43,000 and also tops R&B Albums. The action surrounding the new releases helps to propel the singer 31-6 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart.

Of the new Beyonce bonus tracks, "7/11" earns the highest debut on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, starting at No. 3 (her second-best entrance ever, trailing only "Drunk in Love," which bowed at No. 2 in January). Shifting 85,000 downloads in its first week, the track shoots straight to No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs, where it's her first No. 1.

The start of "7/11" was also powered by its video, which caught fire with viewers on YouTube following its premiere on Nov. 21. A stark contrast to the slick production of the clips from Beyonce, the irrefutably fun, and seemingly homemade, video for "7/11" has amassed 39 million global views (as of Dec. 4).

Beyonce debuts three other songs on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs from the reissue: new track "Ring Off" enters at No. 31; "Standing on the Sun (Remix)," featuring Mr. Vegas, starts at No. 45; and original album track "Blow" begins at No. 48, aided by a new remix featuring Pharrell Williams.

Meanwhile, "***Flawless" leaps 34-12 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with Digital Gainer honors. Of its 67,000 downloads sold, 91 percent stem from a newly-released remix featuring Nicki Minaj.

Beyonce's "More" EP Debuts at No. 8 on Billboard 200

Klaudia//December 4, 2014
The Billboard 200, which has long been a chart that ranked the most popular albums of the week based on pure album sales, now shifts its methodology to a multi-metric consumption model. The ranking includes on-demand streaming and digital track sales, in addition to traditional album sales, all measured by Nielsen.

This is the most substantial update to the chart's methodology since May of 1991, when Billboard first used Nielsen's point-of-sale data — SoundScan — to measure album sales.

As previously reported, the new Billboard 200 chart uses accepted industry benchmarks for digital and streaming data, where 10 digital track sales from an album is equivalent to one album sale, and 1,500 song streams from an album equates to one album sale. All of the major on-demand audio subscription services are considered, including Spotify, Beats Music, Google Play and Xbox Music.

Beyonce's new Beyonce: More Only (EP) struts in at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 with 71,000 units. The digital set includes only the new bonus material (new songs, remixes and videos) that was added to the deluxe reissue of her self-titled album. The new EP sold 43,000 albums, but also garnered 25,000 in TEA and another 3,000 in SEA.

On the Top Album Sales chart, the Beyonce: More Only (EP) launches at No. 17.

The diva's self-titled album also scoots up both lists, thanks to its expanded reissue. On the Billboard 200, Beyonce rises 199-39 (25,000 units), while on the Top Album Sales chart, it vaults 199-37 (22,000 album sales; up 713 percent).

In other chart news, Beyonce's latest single "7/11" debuts on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 18.
