Beyoncé wrote the foreword to Prince: A Private View

Klaudia//August 17, 2017
We’d be excited enough by Prince: A Private View, a new book of photographs of the late pop legend by Afshin Shahidi, just because of the gorgeous images inside. But the foreword to the book is practically an event in itself. It’s written by one Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and EW can exclusively share this peek at her words: “Truth be told, the word ‘icon’ only scratches the surface of what Prince was and what he remains to me.”

Shahidi was Prince’s friend for 20 years and photographer for 10, and Prince: A Private View — due out Oct. 17 — features photos and captions that reflect that relationship. The images range from intimate to candid to staged, and many of them have never been seen before. Shahidi was also the only photographer to shoot Prince’s 3121 private parties in Los Angeles.

Beyonce Interested in Buying Stake in Houston Rockets

Klaudia//August 2, 2017
Pop superstar Beyonce, a Houston native, is mulling an investment in the National Basketball Association’s Rockets, according to people familiar with the matter.

Rockets owner Les Alexander, a former bond trader, said last month he was selling the team amid a surge in franchise values across sports. The club’s popularity in China may push the sale price past the record $2 billion Steve Ballmer paid for the Los Angeles Clippers three years ago.

Alexander paid $85 million for the Rockets in 1993.

It’s common for celebrities to make small investments in sports teams. Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z, for instance, was born in Brooklyn and once held a less than 1 percent stake in basketball’s Nets. He sold his share of the team after starting Roc Nation, which represents athletes.

There are plenty of other examples: Pop star Justin Timberlake, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, owns a piece of basketball’s Grizzlies; tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, as well as Jennifer Lopez, are investors in football’s Miami Dolphins; and actor Will Ferrell has a stake in Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Football Club.

The Rockets declined to comment. Beyonce’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment. The entertainer’s representatives at Sony Music Entertainment declined to comment. A spokeswoman for her husband, Jay-Z, also didn’t immediately respond.

Beyonce's Twins Photo 2nd Most Liked in Instagram History

Klaudia//July 15, 2017
Beyonce's twins are blowing up Instagram once more -- and this time, we actually get to see their faces.

Queen Bey took to her Insta in the early hours Friday (July 14) to unveil her newborns, Sir and Rumi Carter, to commemorate their one-month birthday. In line with the elaborate floral backdrop that Beyonce used when announcing that she was expecting twins in February, the pic shows the singer holding her babies amidst another flower-decked canopy, draped in a pastel gown and sporting a blue veil.

If you recall, Beyonce's pregnancy announcement set the record for Instagram's most-liked picture on the day it was posted (Feb. 1), garnering 6.4 million likes within hours and surpassing Selena Gomez's previous record of 6.305 million on her Coca-Cola ad photo. With her latest baby pic, though, Beyonce has now claimed the top two spots on the most-liked ranking, as it took only 9 hours for it to become the second most liked picture in Instagram history. Just 24 hours after she revealed the Carter babies to the world, the number of likes stands at 9.2 million.

So now the question is, will Beyonce (and her babies) replace herself for the top spot? As of press time, the pregnancy photo is now at 11,113,053 likes, which means the picture with the twins has about 1.8 million more likes to go before Beyonce tops Beyonce. Only time will tell, but it certainly appears to be on track so far.

Jay-Z Gets Candid About Beyoncé In New '4:44' Video

Klaudia//July 11, 2017
Last month, Jay Z publicly responded to Beyoncé’s soul-baring Lemonade album with a soul-baring record of his own: 4:44. On the title track, Jay Z apologized to his wife for cheating on her. And on Monday, Jay Z released a “footnotes” video for the title song (via Tidal), during which he and several celebrity friends like Kendrick Lamar, Will Smith, and Chris Rock discuss the themes of the track. In doing so, Jay Z finds himself offering more personal details about what went wrong in his marriage.

“This is my real life,” Jay Z says, before addressing the problems that arose in his marriage. “I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn’t totally built on the 100 percent truth and it starts cracking. Things start happening that the public can see. Then we had to get to a point of ‘OK, tear this down and let’s start from the beginning.’ It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

Towards the end of the video, Jay Z remembers a time when he actually begged Beyoncé to stay with him on vacation, rather than leave, as she had previously planned.

“I was on a boat, and I had the best time,” Jay Z recalls. “I was like, ‘Man, this is great.’ Then she had to leave. . .I was, like, crushed: ‘Man, I don’t even feel like this. What is happening to my body right now? I don’t even feel like this. Did I just say. . . ‘Don’t leave’?”

In another clip from the track’s “footnotes,” Jay Z admits that he played 4:44 for Beyoncé pretty early in the recording process. And yes, that was awkward.

“We just got to a place where in order for this to work, this can’t be fake,” Jay Z explains. “Not one ounce. I’m not saying it wasn’t uncomfortable because obviously it was.”

Jay-Z Talks About Beyonce on 4:44 Bonus Track

Klaudia//July 8, 2017
For those of you who couldn’t get enough of Jay-Z’s 13th studio album, 4:44, good news: A physical edition of the album, out on Friday, features three bonus songs — “Blue’s Freestyle / We Family,” “MaNyfaCedGod,” and “Adnis,” all of which could be heard in the visual teasers of the album.

“Blue’s Freestyle / We Family” has a very accurate title: Not only does Blue rap on the track, but it’s also downright adorable and very, very catchy, even though her verses aren’t the easiest to understand, as Twitter has been quick to point out. Basically, 2017’s new catchphrase will probably be “boom shakalaka,” and it’s all thanks to Blue.

“MaNyfaCedGod” features James Blake and deals with Beyoncé’s forgiveness, her and Jay-Z’s reconciliation, and their On the Run Tour. The song also references a quote by Rumi, further solidifying the rumor that Hov and Beyoncé’s twins are named Rumi and Sir.

You can buy the physical edition of 4:44 on Amazon and read the full lyrics to “MaNyfaCedGod” below.

Beyoncé & Jay-Z's Twins' Names Reportedly Revealed

Klaudia//July 2, 2017
Have Beyoncé and husband JAY-Z settled on names for their new additions?

The couple’s twins, reportedly a daughter and a son, may be named Rumi and Sir Carter, according to trademark documents filed to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on Monday and obtained by PEOPLE.

Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s company has filed papers to trademark the apparent monikers for everything from fragrances and cosmetics to baby gear, tote bags and water bottles.

The name Rumi appears to be an homage to a 13th century Persian poet by that name -- and Sir happens to be referenced in one of his most famous poems:

“Bring the pure wine of
love and freedom.
But sir, a tornado is coming.
More wine, we'll teach this storm
A thing or two about whirling.”

Beyoncé Was More Involved in 4:44 Than You Think

Klaudia//July 2, 2017
With Jay-Z aging gracefully on his newest album, 4:44, listeners might’ve been surprised (or not) to learn that the rapper directly addressed Beyoncé’s Lemonade numerous times, confirming that he was, indeed, up to some lying and philandering while married to Bey. What’s perhaps more surprising then is that Beyoncé was heavily involved in crafting 4:44 as we know it, as revealed in a new interview with No I.D., the album’s producer. “I always call Bey our de facto A&R. Pillow talk is the strongest conversation on the planet,” he explained to the New York Times. “Every song has to get past her ears, in my eyes. She came by a lot and played a good part in helping us get over hurdles on certain records. Of course she’s genius-level with that.”

Although Jay-Z didn’t want 4:44 to solely serve as a “response” to Lemonade, No I.D. indirectly encouraged him to reference it at least once. As we know now, Jay-Z ended up referencing it quite a bit, most notably with 4:44’s title track. “We just wanted him to respond and then let it be and still touch on other things. I created that beat to box him into telling that story,” the producer explained. “We never directly spoke about that album. Mainly because if he talks about himself, it’s going to bleed into that regardless. But there’s a difference in talking about it for the sake of response and for the sake of honesty and the truth. The truth needs to explain why you are the way you are, why you did what you did. We know what happened. We got it.” And the rest is Tidal history.

JAY-Z apologises to Beyonce on 4:44

Klaudia//June 30, 2017
JAY-Z has used tracks on his new album to make a public apology to Beyonce for his past indiscretions.

4:44 was released exclusively to Tidal on 30 June, and fans were quick to notice how many of the lines seem to respond directly to those of Beyonce's album Lemonade.

The two artists have been married for almost 10 years, but their relationship was the subject of worldwide speculation after lyrics in Lemonade appeared to accuse JAY-Z of being unfaithful.

Many fans expected JAY-Z to respond on 4:44, and it seems they will not be disappointed.

For instance, on Beyonce's track 'Hold Up' she says: "Never had the baddest woman in the game up in your sheets."

On JAY-Z's track "Kill Jay Z" he responds with the self-critical: “You almost went Eric Benét / Let the baddest girl in the world get away."

On Beyonce's track “Pray You Catch Me" she sings: “You can taste the dishonesty / It’s all over your breath as you pass it off so cavalier."

On “Kill JAY-Z” he appears to reference an infamous altercation in a lift with Beyonce's sister Solange after the 2014 Met Gala: "You egged Solange on/Knowin’ all along, all you had to say you was wrong."

Beyonce Wins at the 2017 BET Awards

Klaudia//June 26, 2017
Beyoncé was the big winner Sunday at the 2017 BET Awards, taking a total of five trophies at the music-rich event in Los Angeles. She won for Female R&B/Pop Artist, Album Of The Year for Lemonade, and Viewers Choice, Video Director Of The Year and Video Of The Year for “Sorry,” the latter honor shared with Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic.”

The singer may have skipped the BET Awards, but she still delivered a message to the crowd, as she asked her protégés Chloe x Halle to read her speech after winning the Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award for "Sorry."

"Thank you BET for this award and your tremendous support of Lemonade. This has been a journey of love, of celebrating our culture, honoring the past, and approaching the present and future with hope and resolve," the speech began. "Thank you to my mother Tina Knowles Lawson for being my biggest, biggest teacher and consistent influence. Thank you to my entire family for so much love."

Queen Bey also gave a shout-out to her supportive fans. "My BeyHive, for riding with me. I love and appreciate you," Chloe x Halle said, reading the note. "To everyone at the show tonight, you all look so beautiful and at home, thank you and have a wonderful, wonderful night. From, Beyonce."

Beyonce’s Twins Were Reportedly Born Premature

Klaudia//June 21, 2017
It's been more than a week since the Knowles-Carter twins arrived, but according to several sources, Beyoncé and the twins are still in a Los Angeles, California hospital. According to TMZ, Beyoncé's twins were reported born prematurely and were kept "under the lights." The "lights," the unnamed source told TMZ, refer to phototherapy to treat newborn jaundice, a common condition in premature babies. The condition also affects full term babies, and is rarely serious.

When preemies develop jaundice, it's due to elevated bilirubin levels in their blood. As a result, jaundiced babies' skin and the whites of their eyes appear yellow or orange. These visible signs of jaundice take anywhere from three to five days after birth to appear and are temporary, with skin color returning to normal once the bilirubin levels stabilize. To accelerate this process, babies are put under bright blue lights to help break down the bilirubin. They even get tiny little shaded goggles to wear to protect their eyes, not unlike the kind you'd see at a tanning salon.

Jaundice could certainly account for the "minor issue" with Beyoncé's twins that have kept them in the hospital since their birth on June 12. While the couple themselves have yet to confirm the twins' birth, Beyoncé's dad, Matthew Knowles, confirmed the twins' arrival via Instagram on Sunday.

Beyonce and Jay Z Welcome Twins

Klaudia//June 18, 2017
Beyoncé Knowles and Shawn “Jay Z” Carter have welcomed twins in one of the most highly anticipated celebrity births, according to multiple reports Sunday.

One of those reports was granddad himself, Matthew Knowles, who blasted the news on Twitter with a Father's Day post reading “They’re here!” and “Happy Birthday to the twins!"

And sources told E! News that Beyoncé had given birth to twins in Los Angeles. On Thursday, Jay Z and Blue Ivy were together spotted at a Los Angeles area hospital. While the twins' genders have yet to be revealed, on Friday, an unidentified woman carrying a bouquet of pink, purple and blue flowers with two giant baby foot-shaped pink and blue balloons that read, "Baby Girl" and "Baby Boy, was photographed dropping off the gift at the same Los Angeles hospital that Bey's husband and 5-year-old daughter were seen at the day prior. Upon inspection, the card attached to the flowers had a visible "B+J" written on the floral envelope.

TMZ also reported that the twins had arrived, but an issue surfaced that has kept them in the hospital for nearly a week. Sources connected with the family told TMZ the twins were born Monday in a Los Angeles hospital. Reportedly, a "minor issue" surfaced, and as a result doctors do not feel comfortable releasing them. One source told TMZ Beyonce also remains at the hospital, but as far as they know she's okay. The babies are expected to be okay as well. It's unclear when everyone will be released.

The platinum couple, who recently celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary has yet to officially comment.

Beyoncé to release Shimmering Heat

Klaudia//June 16, 2017
Beyoncé's perfume line based on her premier fragrance Heat (launched in 2010) showcases various interpretations of different fantasy orchid accords in the form of flankers. The original is based on the red vanilla orchid, Heat Rush contains the yellow tiger orchid, Heat The Mrs. Carter Show from 2013 brings the Brassia Edvah Loo orchid, Heat Kissed from 2015 features the Red Fury orchid, Heat Seduction was composed to reflect the ginger orchid, etc. The new Shimmering Heat comes out before the end of the 2017 summer and will be portraying the Blue Mystique orchid.

Shimmering Heat is inspired by the first moments on stage, when the light shines on Beyoncé while she is dressed in a sequined outfit. The composition aims to evoke this "magical" and "enchanting" atmosphere. Fresh, green, floral and chypre notes promise a difference from the previous sweet, fruity and gourmet editions of this line. The Blue Mystique orchid at the perfume’s core is surrounded with sharp pink pepper and fresh notes, and placed on a woody base of patchouli.

Top notes: pink pepper, fresh green notes, freesia
Heart: mystical blue orchid, jasmine, rose, lily of the valley
Base: patchouli, oak moss, musk, vanilla

The light blue bottle and box are in the standard form of the collection and this edition comes in the sizes of 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
