Beyonce's Boyz II Men Sample On 'Countdown' Is 'Clever' Band Says

Klaudia//September 22, 2011
When Beyoncé dropped 4 earlier this year, she paid homage to her roots by sampling Boyz II Men. The singer used the countdown portion of their track "Uhh Ahh" on her I'm-so-in-love party track "Countdown." The song is all about the rapture of true love, with Beyoncé happily declaring her devotion to that special man in her life. So were the guys happy about her decision to include them on the album? "I thought it was very clever," Wanya Morris told MTV News earlier this week when he stopped by to chat about the latest Boyz II Men album, Twenty. "She's a clever artist. She's one of the best in the business right now. I guess you can say we finally got our duet with Beyoncé." The guys are certainly having a moment this year, thanks to the sample and their work with Justin Bieber. They say that Beyoncé's decision to use their song on the lively track was pretty surprising, even though they have a bit of history with Queen B. "It wasn't something we expected, but we do have a bit of a relationship," Nathan Morris explained. "A lot of people don't really know that when they had Destiny's Child, the first time they went on tour they opened up for us for quite a long time. And we tried our best to look after them and make sure everything was good. And back then they were incredible." Even that long ago they knew Beyoncé stood out from the pack. "We all saw that she would wind up doing her thing," Morris added. "There is a connection, and at the end of the day we didn't know she would use that record. Game respects game, I guess you would call it."

Love On Top debuts at #20 on Billboard Hot 100

Klaudia//September 8, 2011
The VMAs also reveal their influence in the form of Hot 100 debuts, including Beyonce, whose "Love on Top" begins at No. 20 (and No. 10 on Digital Songs with sales of 113,000, marking the first Digital Songs top 10 from her album "4"). Beyonce performed the song on the VMAs (and then unsnapped her jacket and rubbed her belly, a move that served to announce her pregnancy). The No. 20 Hot 100 launch of "Love" is Beyonce's second-highest among her 29 solo career entries; only "Ring the Alarm" began at a higher rung (No. 12, 2006).

Beyonce sees bump in sales following baby reveal

Klaudia//August 31, 2011
Beyonce's revelation — both on the red carpet and during her performance — that she and her husband, Jay-Z, are expecting their first child undoubtedly stole the show at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. The big warm-and-fuzzy moment also has provided the diva with a major bump, pun intended, on record sales. After telling the audience that she wanted them "to feel the love that's growing inside," she dived into "Love on Top," a cut from her album "4." The performance boosted the non-single into the iTunes top 5, while her actual single, "Best Thing I Never Had," is currently languishing at No. 23. The album has also made its way back into the top 10 on iTunes, coincidentally landing at the No. 4 spot. Despite being herald by critics, the disc has struggled a bit commercially. The album's first two singles, "Best Thing I Never Had" and "Run the World (Girls)," have failed to take off like "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," "Irreplaceable," "Crazy in Love" and other huge hits. The album has so far logged fewer than 700,000 units, according to Nielsen Soundscan, since its June release — a sluggish number when compared to the record-breaking tallies that Adele and Lady Gaga have enjoyed with their recent releases.

1+1 Video Premiere

Klaudia//August 26, 2011
Yesterday E! unveiled the brand new video for "1+1" as Beyoncé continues to roll out the story of 4. Coming on the heels of her "4 Intimate Nights with Beyoncé" dates, Beyoncé was ready to unleash the video to what she refers to as "my favorite song." The "1+1" video is the story of love at its best. It's about commitment and fulfillment and it's Beyoncé at her most beautiful. The video experiments with psychedelic visual effects and innovative lighting that gives the clip a cinematic feel. "1+1," which Beyoncé first performed on the season finale of American Idol, is not an official single but it's the first song on the album and it's the first of many videos which will be released to visually tell the story of 4. The dress rehearsal clip backstage at AI, "Pregame" became an instant viral hit as soon as it hit the web. Look for Beyoncé this Sunday performing (another one of her songs) on the 2011 MTV VMAS, live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Beyoncé Wraps Up "4 Intimate Nights with Beyoncé"

Klaudia//August 20, 2011
Beyoncé finished the last of her "4 Intimate Nights with Beyoncé" last night at New York's famed Roseland Ballroom. The fans, the famous and the press all drew the same conclusion: Beyoncé Dazzled! Three nights of rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of the fans who formed a predictable line around the entire block of the historic venue for each show from the wee hours of the morning. Among the stars who came out to the sold out shows were Jay-Z, Sir Paul McCartney, Russell Simmons, Diddy, Lady Gaga, Maxwell, Jennifer Hudson, Mary Mary, The Dream, Ne-Yo and songwriter Diane Warren. During the last night's show, Beyonce announced that it was being filmed for a DVD!

Beyonce Runs Her World: Inside The Recording Of '4'

Klaudia//August 17, 2011
It only seems as though Beyonce has been a superstar forever. Since her days fronting the hit machine known as Destiny’s Child in the late ’90s, she has conquered the world with her four solo albums—selling 75 million records and picking up 16 Grammys along the way—triumphed on a succession of increasingly extravagant tours, been praised for her acting in several major feature films, launched successful fashion and fragrance lines, and become one of the highest-paid commercial spokespeople in the U.S. Her latest album, 4, was an instant smash when it was released in late June while she was on tour in France; two days after it came out, she headlined the Glastonbury Festival in England in front of 170,000 people. She’s beautiful, talented, independent—and driven. One reason Beyonce has ascended to these lofty heights is that she is a perfectionist with a fierce work ethic. To quote a previous generation’s R&B giant, she works hard for the money. And that includes the many long days and nights she puts into recording her albums. This isn’t some diva who pops into the studio after everything has been tracked, lays down some lead vocals and then splits. Instead, she’s involved with co-writing most of the songs she sings, often has very specific arrangement ideas, and is always deeply invested in the album’s production. Like so many contemporary R&B albums, 4 is loaded with songs by multiple writers and producers, many of them high-wattage hit-makers, including The-Dream, Babyface, Kanye West, Switch, Tricky Stewart, Jeff Bhasker, Shea Taylor, Symbolyc One (S1) and others. “The majority of the album, we would bring writers in and B and I would be in one room, and then we’d have one or two writers in one or two other rooms working on things,” says Jordan “DJ Swivel” Young, who was the principal engineer throughout the project, which stretched out over a year. “I think there was a period of about three months where we had three rooms going at MSR . But at every studio, we’d usually have two rooms going. We’d bring different writers in for a week or whatever. Dream would come in, Jeff Bhasker came in, and they would write and they might already have some tracks together, or Shea Taylor would come up with tracks, and when they were done with the records they would play them for B and she would add ideas of her own, mold the lyrics to fit her and then we’d start cutting them.

Kelly Rowland Talks Getting “Goofy” On “Party” Video Set

Klaudia//August 11, 2011
When Beyoncé threw a “Party” at a trailer park community in New Jersey for her next music video on Tuesday (August 2), she invited a few friends along. One of those friends was her former Destiny’s Child groupmate, Kelly Rowland. Photos from the video set show the two pals all dressed up to jam — Beyoncé in a yellow fur jacket, Kelly in a sparkly plum ensemble — at the Oakdale Mobile Home Community in South Brunswick. Neon Limelight talked to Kelly on August 3 to find out what her role in the clip will be. “I’m just doing a cameo,” she told us. “We just had a really good time.” Rowland’s appearance in the video alongside B is sure to conjure up memories for DC fans, and it did as well for Kelly. “We noticed that we were doing certain stuff that we used to do as kids,” Rowland said with a laugh. “We kinda felt a little goofy for a second so we stopped. But we just had a good time.” Beyoncé’s younger sister Solange was also spotted on the video set. The 90′s-inspired “Party,” from Beyoncé’s latest album, 4, was produced by Kanye West and features Andre 3000. No word yet on if either of them will appear in the video.

Kanye West and Jay-Z's New Song 'Lift Off' Ft. Beyonce

Klaudia//August 8, 2011
On the eve of "Watch the Throne" release, Kanye West and Jay-Z's new song called "Lift Off" hit the web. The newly-revealed track features none other than jigga's singer wife Beyonce Knowles. "Watch the Throne" is coming out in the United States on August 8. It features Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All's member Frank Ocean, late soul singer Otis Redding, Kanye's protege Mr. Hudson, and R&B/funk artist Curtis Mayfield in addition to Beyonce. The album release will soon be followed by a joint tour across North America. The traveling show was due to start on September 22 in Detroit, but was rescheduled by moving the first date to October 29 in Atlanta, GA. Nearly 20 of the previously-announced dates were scrapped, leaving around 19 shows to go ahead.

Kelly Rowland Cameos In Beyonce-Directed “Party” Video

Klaudia//August 4, 2011
We were tickled pink to speak to Kelly Rowland on the phone this afternoon to discuss her sophisticated new album Here I Am (#3 on the charts!), and though our full Q&A with Ms. Kelly will come soon enough, we didn’t want to wait to pass on two fun tidbits she mentioned about her Destiny’s Child sister Beyonce’s upcoming “Party” video:

#1. The clip’s director? Beyonce herself. The last time Bey was credited as director was for her “Ego” video (alongside Frank Gatson).

#2. Rowland was spotted on the “Party” set, but she officially confirmed to us that she has a cameo during the trailer park-set fiesta. (That’s about as close to a Destiny’s Child reunion as we’re going to get for now.)

While “Party” (which features Kanye West and Andre 3000) seems intended as a blockbuster video, it’s been reported that the bubbly dance jam “Countdown” will be Bey’s official third single from 4. And Complex reports that Adria Petty (who previously helmed “Sweet Dreams”) will be directing that song’s clip.
