University of Redlands to Host Groundbreaking 'Beyoncé Mass'

Klaudia//January 11, 2019
On Jan. 21, 2019, the University of Redlands, a private liberal arts and professional university in Southern California, will welcome the "Beyoncé Mass" to its main campus in Redlands, California. The worship service uses the music and life of Beyoncé as a tool to cultivate an empowering conversation about Black women — their lives, bodies, and voices — while creating an event with story, scripture, and song that calls for the liberation of all people.

The event will make up a part of the commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the University of Redlands, which will also include a series of community service gatherings and musical offerings. Created, led by, and based on the scholarship of, Reverend Yolanda Norton, the H. Eugene Farlough Chair of Black Church Studies and assistant professor of Old Testament at San Francisco Theological Seminary, the Beyoncé Mass drew about 1,000 people at its inaugural event at San Francisco's historic Grace Cathedral in April 2018.

"Beyoncé Mass is a Christian worship service that is open to all," stated Rev. Norton. "This is not a ceremony deifying Beyoncé. The premise of this service is that if we look at the personal life, career trajectory, music, and public persona of Beyoncé, so much of her life reflects aspects of Black women's stories."

The initial public Beyoncé Mass included in its liturgy the use of Destiny Child's Survivor as an introduction to speak to the enduring spirit of Black women and the capacity for all people to overcome oppression and discrimination. Additionally, the service included readings and a sermon by Rev. Norton.

Beyonce and Jay-Z Help Louvre Museum Break Visitor Record

Klaudia//January 4, 2019
The Louvre in Paris, the world's most visited museum, received a record 10.2 million visitors in 2018, numbers boosted by a video clip shot by Beyonce amid its paintings and sculptures.

The Louvre also mentioned in a statement Thursday the success of its flagship exhibition on French master Delacroix as a reason for the record.

The "Apeshit" video of Beyonce and husband Jay-Z, featuring the Mona Lisa and other world-famous artworks, has been viewed over 146 million times on YouTube.

The museum noted a significant rise in foreign visitors — almost three-quarters of total visitor numbers — mostly from the United States, China, other European countries and Brazil.

Tourism in the French capital has rebounded since 2017 after a sharp fall following 2015 terror attacks.

Beyoncé & JAY-Z Write Introduction To Plant-Based Lifestyle Book

Klaudia//January 1, 2019
JAY-Z and Beyoncé are encouraging everyone to take part in the plant-based food revolution.

In an introduction for the new book The Greenprint: Plant-Based Diet, Best Body, Better World, by Marco Borges, Beyoncé’s trainer, the couple open up about how parenthood changed their outlook on life — including the food they eat.

“Having children has changed our lives more than anything else,” they wrote. “We used to think of health as a diet – some worked for us, some didn’t. Once we looked at health as the truth, instead of a diet, it became a mission for us to share that truth and lifestyle with as many people as possible.”

More photos from South Africa

Klaudia//December 19, 2018
Beyonce shared her thoughts on the Global Citizen Festival and more photos from South Africa on Instagram.

"After settling in at home from a beautiful trip to South Africa and India, I am still in awe that 7.1 BILLION dollars was raised to aid Global Citizen in its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty.
I’d like to give my praise and respect to all the speakers, performers, and volunteers who donated their time to contribute to making positive change. Every person in the audience at FNB Stadium earned a seat because they generously donated their time to help their community. Now their efforts and the money raised will help improve education, healthcare, sanitation, women’s rights, and countless other causes for millions across the globe.
I felt so much positivity and pride in the audience at Global Citizen: Mandela 100. Madiba, Johannesburg, and all of my African sisters and brothers, we hope we made you as proud as you all make us. South Africa was an extraordinary trip for me and my family. God bless.

"Thank you to the talented African designers who kept me feeling fresh. Y’all go so hard. 🐝"
