Nicki Minaj Is Super Proud of This Compliment From Beyoncé

Klaudia//August 29, 2018
Nicki Minaj appeared on SiriusXM Shade 45 to promote her new album Queen where she revealed her favorite compliment from longtime friend and collaborator Beyoncé.

Minaj recalled Bey's reaction to her 2014 VMA performance of "Bang Bang" with Ariana Grande and Jessie J, where her outfit change didn't go exactly as planned and resulted in an epic wardrobe malfunction. "One time she did say, which I thought was a really sweet compliment, she said that when I was almost on national TV with my boobs out on an award show because I couldn’t zip my dress up in time, she was like, ‘Oh my God I have so much respect for that, for the way you handled that. That was so professional. You didn’t miss your cue! You went out there with that dress the way it was…You were on that stage when your first line came on. You did what you had to do!’”

After the performance, Minaj was pretty embarrassed but found solace in Beyoncé's encouraging words. “I was very proud to get a compliment like that from her because I was devastated and humiliated to be on stage with half of my torso out zipping up a dress on a live award show.”

Beyoncé And JAY-Z Announce A New Scholarship Program

Klaudia//August 26, 2018
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter announce a new scholarship program that will award one exceptional senior high school student, with financial needs, 100K to put toward their enrollment in a college or university for the academic year 2018-2019. The award will serve as a dedicated university-based fund for each selected student throughout the duration of the student's enrollment.

This back to school season, students in OTRll Tour markets, who are preparing for college, will be chosen by Boys and Girls Club of America. Qualified students must demonstrate academic excellence and show financial needs that would make it hard for them to enter a college or university for the academic year 2018-2019.

The markets will include Atlanta, where the OTRll Tour plays at Mercedes Benz Stadium Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26, Orlando, Miami, Arlington, New Orleans, Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Clara and Seattle.

The Carters have had a long history of helping students with The Shawn Carter Foundation spearheading college tours to HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and providing scholarships to college bound students nationwide

Beyoncé, through her BeyGOOD initiative, created the Formation Scholars Award, a merit program, in 2017 to help female students start or further their college education, and this year announced the Homecoming Scholars Award, a second merit program, opened to qualified students, regardless of gender, to enter or continue their studies at one of eight HBCUs.

OTR II show descends into chaos as dancers tackle stage invader

Klaudia//August 26, 2018
A Beyonce and Jay-Z concert ended in chaos on Saturday night after a stage invader managed to make to get within feet of the super stars as they walked off stage.

Video of the performance in Atlanta showed the invader casually make his way on to the stage from the audience, before rushing after the power couple; when the dancers realised what happened they rushed to the back of the stage moments to stop his tracks, before security guards also rushed the stage.

Many of the session musicians also on stage seem unaware of what is taking place below them, as they continue to perform.

In videos, shared by concertgoers at the venue, it appears that the invader is held down by security guards, however fans took to Twitter to ask where security was in the first place.

Beyoncé’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure confirmed via Instagram that the pair are fine.

‘Beyonce and JAY-Z on stage tonight in Atlanta. Thank you to all the fans for your concern,’ she wrote on Instagram, ‘they are fine and looking forward to the show tomorrow.’

Beyoncé & JAY-Z's On the Run II Tour Surpasses $150 Million Earned

Klaudia//August 25, 2018
Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s On the Run II Tour tops the Hot Tours list dated Aug. 25, thanks to the latest batch of earnings reported to Billboard Boxscore for the couple's successful trek. Their placement is fueled by recent engagements in Minneapolis, Detroit, and two sold-out shows for 86,000 fans at Chicago’s Soldier Field, which totaled $21.2 million in grosses.

With the addition of these four dates, Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s co-headline trek exceeds $150 million grossed, rising to a total of $150.7 million. Across 29 shows in Europe and the U.S., total attendance has reached 1.4 million. There are 19 dates left to report to Boxscore before the tour closes on Oct. 4 at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field.

With another month and a half of dates still ahead for Beyoncé and JAY-Z, their tour is trending toward the $250 million mark. As implied by the tour’s name, it is the sequel to their original 2014 On the Run stint. The 2018 installment has already blown past its predecessor, which brought in $109.6 million.

The couple’s massive summer tour caps off a particularly fertile few years of their storied careers. They released a pair of complimentary albums, Beyoncé’s Lemonade in 2016 and JAY-Z’s 4:44 the following year. Combined, these two efforts yielded 21 entries on the Hot 100 and earned 3.5 million equivalent album units according to Nielsen Music. Together, they completed the trilogy with 2018’s Everything is Love, billed to The Carters. The joint album, released in the middle of their European leg, topped five Billboard charts dated June 30, 2018, including Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums, Top Rap Albums, and Digital Albums.

Minnesota Governor Announces Statewide 'Beyoncé and Jay-Z Day'

Klaudia//August 15, 2018
Minnesota Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton declared August 8th as a statewide “Beyoncé and Jay-Z Day” in anticipation of the megastar couple’s concert in Minneapolis. “Beyoncé and Jay-Z have taken home numerous awards from platforms such as the Grammy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, BET Awards, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and NAACP Image Awards, among others and have sold millions of records worldwide,” Dayton wrote in an official proclamation.

“Through their lives and music, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have inspired Minnesotans, and music fans around the world,” he continued.

The proclamation was signed shortly before the couple gave a joint concert at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Dayton’s announcement comes over two years after he declared May 23rd as statewide ‘Beyoncé Day’ before the 36-year-old singer gave a concert in Minneapolis in 2016. Neither one of the pair were born or raised in Minnesota, with Beyoncé from Texas while Jay-Z is from New York.

Throwback: Backstage with Destiny's Child in the Summer of 2001

Klaudia//August 15, 2018
Photographer Gillian Laub revisits some outtakes from an emotional day with Beyoncé, Michelle, Kelly, and the Knowles family.

In the summer of 2001, I was commissioned by The New York Times Magazine to photograph Destiny’s Child for a special women’s issue. The theme was women photographing women. It was one of my earliest commissions, and I was over the moon when I got the call. I spent the day backstage as they prepared for that evening’s concert in Albany, New York. I loved what a family affair this was. Beyoncé Knowles was surrounded by her parents, sister, and her cousins. It felt like Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, and Beyoncé were sisters, too. Before the trio went onstage, they said a prayer that felt so earnest and pure, it almost felt intrusive to photograph. But now, I’m so glad I did.
