Miss Millennium: Beyoncé

Klaudia//January 10, 2013
Beyoncé is ready to receive you now. From the chair where she's sitting, in the conference room of her sleek office suite in midtown Manhattan, at a round table elegantly laden with fine china, crisp cloth napkins, and take-out sushi from Nobu, she could toss some edamame over her shoulder and hit her sixteen Grammys, each wall-mounted in its own Plexiglas box. She is luminous, with that perfect smile and smooth coffee skin that shines under a blondish topknot and bangs. Today she's showing none of the bodaciously thick, hush-your-mouth body that's on display onstage, in her videos, and on these pages. This is Business Beyoncé, hypercomposed Beyoncé—fashionable, elegant, in charge. She's wearing the handiwork of no fewer than seven designers, among them Givenchy (the golden pin at her neck), Day Birger et Mikkelsen (her dainty gray-pink petal-collar blouse), Christian Louboutin (her pink five-inch studded heels), and Isabel Marant (her floral pants). She does not get up—a video camera has already been aimed at her face and turned on—so you greet her as you sit down. You have an agreed-upon window of time. Maybe a little more, if she finds you amusing.

You're here to talk about her big post-baby comeback (Blue Ivy, her daughter with Jay-Z, is a year old), which Beyoncé is marking in classic Beyoncé fashion: with a Hydra-headed pop-cultural blitzkrieg. This month, two weeks after she headlines the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII, she will premiere an HBO "documentary"—more like a visual autobiography—about herself and her family that she financed, directed, produced, narrated, and stars in. This is a woman, after all, who's sold 75 million albums, just signed a $50 million endorsement deal with Pepsi (her flawless visage will festoon actual cans of soda), and will soon embark on a world tour to promote her fifth solo album, as yet untitled, due out as early as April. Who wouldn't want to know how she gets the job done?

Beyoncé documentary premiering Feb. 16 on HBO

Klaudia//November 26, 2012
Multiple Grammy®-winner, entrepreneur and actress Beyoncé will be the focus of an intimate feature-length HBO documentary film debuting Feb. 16, 2013, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Directed by the superstar, the film is a fusion of video that provides raw, unprecedented access to the private entertainment icon and high-voltage performances.

“Everybody knows Beyoncé’s music, but few know Beyoncé the person,” said Lombardo. “Along with electrifying footage of Beyoncé onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.”

“HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity,” said Beyoncé. “Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home."

The film is a multi-faceted portrait of the 16-time Grammy Award-winning singer, businesswoman, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, wife and mother, showing off the extraordinary gifts that have made her a global phenomenon, and stripping away the veneer of stardom. It includes extensive first-person footage, some of it shot by Beyoncé on her laptop, in which she reflects on the realities of celebrity, the refuge she finds onstage and the transcendent joy of becoming a mother last year.

The film sheds light on her childhood in Houston, with home movies revealing the close bond she built with her family and charts the challenges Beyoncé felt when she decided to manage her career and build her own company, Parkwood Entertainment. The film also captures the intense physical and emotional demands she goes through in the studio, preparing for live performances, running a business and her family life including her return to the spotlight after the birth of her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, in January 2012.

Beyoncé also serves as the film’s executive producer.

Beyonce As Queen Tara In 'Epic': First Look

Klaudia//November 23, 2012
Beyonce is getting animated in the upcoming 3D feature "Epic." Get a first look at her Queen Tara character here.

Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation are set to release a new 3D computer-generated feature film called "Epic." The flick is described as a modern version of Thumbelina where a yong girl finds herself in a magical and secet universe that operates in plain sight of human beings. And like most fairytales, there is a battle between good and evil.

Pop star Beyonce voices the character "Queen Tara" (shown at the top) who is a mother nature type figure. Chris Wedge, who's directing the film, says of Bey's character "She is the one sworn to protect the forest and is the source of its magic."

The film centers on Mary Katherine who begins her journey by questioning her dad, Prof. Bomba, about whether a hidden world of leaf-armored warriors really exists in the woods. After finding herself transported to the forest, she must then save the world from the ever present evil by creating the most unlikely team the magical forest can offer.

The film is expected to be released in the summer of 2013.

Beyoncé Confirms 'A Star Is Born' Exit

Klaudia//October 12, 2012
Clint Eastwood's going to have to find another dream girl.

Beyoncé confirmed today that she will no longer be starring in the latest remake of A Star Is Born being directed by the recently controversial two-time Oscar winner.

Not that anyone's blaming the great chair talk of 2012 for Beyoncé's exit or anything.

The culprit? The two just couldn't seem to get their busy schedules to sync up.

"I was looking forward to the production of A Star Is Born and the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood," the Grammy winner said in a statement to E! News. "For months we tried to coordinate our schedules to bring this remake to life but it was just not possible. Hopefully in the future we will get a chance to work together."

Beyonce exits Eastwood's 'A Star Is Born'

Klaudia//October 11, 2012
With the male lead still up in the air, helmer Clint Eastwood's "A Star Is Born" remake is facing another challenge as Beyonce Knowles has fallen out of the project.

Warner Bros. had no comment, but sources said her schedule was already packed and that without a set start date the scheduling became too complicated for the singer.

Knowles was set to play the role Barbra Streisand last limned in the 1976 version as the promising young performer who falls in love with an older fading star, played by Kris Kristofferson in that version.

Jon Peters, Bill Gerber and Basil Iwanyk are producing the remake, with Will Fetters penning the most recent script. Production had to push due to Beyonce's pregnancy and Eastwood took an acting gig on "Trouble With the Curve" during the hiatus.

Studio insiders said that with Knowles now off the project, there has been interest, at least from Eastwood's end, in jazz musician Esperanza Spaulding. Sources emphasized, though, that until the male lead is locked, no discussions or offers will be out to the female lead.

Eastwood has approached a number of top male stars about playing the fading star, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp and, most recently, Bradley Cooper.

Beyonce Not Confirmed For 'A Star Is Born'

Klaudia//September 26, 2012
Clint Eastwood has revealed that Beyonce is not confirmed to star in his new flick, A Star Is Born, despite the star being named as the lead female over the last year.

Beyonce was said to be getting ready to shoot scenes for the remake of the classic movie in 2011, however, production was said to have been postponed when she announced her pregnancy last summer.

However, Clint says that no one has yet been confirmed for roles and there is still the chance that another actress could take Bey's spot.

"She’s great. I don’t know if she’s available, but we’ve talked a little bit," Clint told E! News.

Meanwhile, the legendary actor confirmed recent reports that Hangover star Bradley Cooper was being considered for the lead male role.

"We were talking to Bradley Cooper. We’ve talked to several people, and we probably won’t address that one till next year. Early next year," Clint added.

Bradley Cooper Brushes Off Beyoncé Movie Rumors

Klaudia//August 28, 2012
Bradley Cooper has brushed off rumors he is set to romance Beyonce in a remake of A Star Is Born.

Clint Eastwood will direct a new version of the classic tale with the singeractress in the role of a young star who falls in love with an older musician mentor, following in the footsteps of both Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand.

A number of high-profile leading men have been linked to the project, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Tom Cruise and Will Smith.

The Hangover star Cooper has also been rumored to be in contention, but he insists the story isn't true.

He tells American newspaper the Chicago Sun-Times, "Me in A Star is Born? I have no idea what you're talking about... It is an interesting idea.

"Clint is one of our best directors. Everyone wants to work with him".

Bradley Cooper To Join Beyonce In 'A Star Is Born'?

Klaudia//August 19, 2012
Bradley Cooper is reportedly mulling over an offer to star opposite Beyonce in Clint Eastwood's film "A Star is Born."

Eastwood allegedly wants Cooper as the leading man for the movie, according to Variety.

The director's version of "A Star is Born" will be a remake of the 1937 film. The movie is about an aging rocker who falls in love with a young, rising star. Screenwriter Will Fetters based the aging rocker character on Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, imagining how he would have fared in the industry 20 years later, had he survived.

The Press Association reports that Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Will Smith have all turned down the "Star Is Born" role. Tom Cruise was the latest to be linked to the part.

"The Hangover" actor may be contemplating the role in Eastwood's Warner Bros. remake, but, according to Variety, "there is no deal in place and Cooper has a very busy schedule."

Beyonce to direct, star in a new documentary

Klaudia//August 2, 2012
Beyoncé Knowles has donned many guises in her entertainment career -- musical superstar, fashion icon, actress. Now she's looking to add a rather different notch: documentary director. Knowles and her representatives at agency ICM have in recent weeks been shopping a nonfiction film to Hollywood studios about the celebrity's life and career. According to a person familiar with the package who was not authorized to talk about it publicly, the movie is as a mix of music and personal study, blending concert footage with confessional interview. Knowles not only stars in the project but is directing it, and will also serve as a producer. About 20 minutes of footage has been shown to distributors. A representative at Knowles’ agency did not immediately reply to a request for comment. Knowles certainly would have a lot to discuss in the doc. In the last 18 months, she's released a top-selling album ("4"), split from her longtime manager (her father), and had a baby, Blue Ivy Carter, with husband Jay-Z, among other noteworthy events. Although she's attached to star in a potential remake of "A Star Is Born," Knowles also has had a taste of the nonfiction film life. In June 2011, MTV aired "Beyoncé: Year of 4,” a "mini-documentary" that showed the artist taking time off and then returning to the recording studio.

Beyonce Cast As Queen Tara In 3-D Animated Film 'Epic'

Klaudia//June 1, 2012
For a while now, folks have been referring to Beyoncé as a queen ... but now, she's going to make it official. On the big screen. According to Deadline.com, Beyoncé has been cast as Queen Tara in the upcoming 3-D, CGI-animated film "Epic," a 20th Century Fox film from the makers of the hits "Ice Age" and "Rio." The film reportedly tells the tale of a teenage girl transported to a secret universe, where she finds herself dropped square in the middle of a battle between the forces of good and evil. She joins forces with "a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters" to save the world. "Epic" is slated to hit theaters on May 24, 2013. It's the first confirmed role for Beyoncé since she took time off for maternity leave, though she's also slated to star in the Clint Eastwood-directed remake of "A Star Is Born." Starring alongside Bey in the movie are the likes of Colin Farrell, Amanda Seyfried, Aziz Ansari and a pair of her fellow musicians, Pitbull and Aerosmith frontman/"American Idol" judge Steven Tyler. Johnny Knoxville, Jason Sudeikis and Judah Friedlander round out the cast. Josh Hutcherson is also set to appear alongside Beyoncé in the film.

Ryan Murphy Plans ‘One Hit Wonders’ With Beyonce?

Klaudia//February 29, 2012
In a seven-figure preemptive deal, Sony Pictures is collaborating with Ryan Murphy on One Hit Wonders, a musical comedy pitch that will be written as a star vehicle for Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Beyonce and Andy Samberg. Murphy is attached to direct, and he will write the script with his Glee cohorts Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. Murphy will produce with Paltrow (who has practically become a Glee cast member) and the latter makes her debut as a producer on this film. Murphy hopes to direct it after he completes The Normal Heart. Paltrow, Witherspoon and Diaz will play three singers who each scored a top hit song in the 1990s before watching their careers go down the drain. They decide to form a super group. Samberg and his Lonely Island cohorts will be involved in generating music for the film, I’m told. The project came out of a dinner Murphy had at the Soho House with Paltrow, Diaz and Witherspoon. They wanted to do something fun together and kicked around ideas until they settled on One Hit Wonders. Murphy, who made Eat Pray Love with Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal, took the pitch to her. Pascal bought it 10 minutes in. They are working the deals right now. Murphy previously made a big deal with Sony for a follow-up picture he’ll direct with Julia Roberts starring. Sony’s Elizabeth Cantillon and Hannah Minghella will steer the project.

Clint Eastwood: “Beyonce Could Be The Next Ella Fitzgerald”

Klaudia//January 16, 2012
With Beyonce having given birth, it’s back to work for the bodacious star. And first on the agenda is her aptly titled new movie ‘A Star Is Born’. Initially set for shooting last year, production on the Clint Eastwood directed clip was delayed to accomodate the singer’s pregnancy. However, all systems are now go and filming is set to commence this Summer. During a recent interview, 81 year old Eastwood lifted on Beyonce’s musical contributions to the movie, which tells the tale of promising starlet and the fall of the fading talent who discovers and helps her reach her goal. Find out what he had to say after the jump… Via Les Inrocks magazine (French):

Did you discuss music with Beyonce, that we will see in your next film, a remake of A Star is Born?

She asked if she could write stuff for the movie, I said yes, great. But I also told her I would make one or two things very classical. Still classicism. But I don’t want Beyoncé to be too classic! She has a superb voice. She could become a new Sarah Vaughan or the next Ella Fitzgerald. She has the same class. I dont know if she knows their music, but I intend to do a good education for the movie!

Diane Warren Dishes On Beyonce

Klaudia//January 11, 2012
MTV: In addition to the Grammy-nominated songs, what else are you working on?

Warren: I’m kind of all over the place. I did the Beyonce song on her album, "I Was Here," and I'm working with her on the music for “A Star Is Born.” I think she’s going to be great in that movie.

MTV: Tell us a little bit more about working with Beyonce on "I'm Not Here"

Warren: It was really fun. I was showing her the song, it was a cool moment to hear her singing it, learning. ...I have to say, is awesome. She is such a nice person. I would do anything for her. I was there when she sang my song that’s on her album and seeing that process, that's a good story too. I literally called Jay-Z and played it on the phone for him. I played it for him, he had her call me and long story short she was in the studio two days later. The album was supposed to be mastered that week, so they held it up for the song. Seeing her work ethic, she was there for three hours singing better than anybody and I said, "Okay, that’s amazing," and she said, "No I’m just getting started. I’m going to go get dinner and come back." It’s like, "Holy s**t." It’s not an accident when people are that successful. It’s a) you’re talented and b) the work ethic that separates the great from the good. She’s a great.

Beyonce's Pregnancy Might Postpone 'A Star Is Born' Production

Klaudia//August 29, 2011
Beyonce Knowles' first pregnancy is likely to affect the production of "A Star Is Born". While Warner Bros. Pictures hope to begin filming as early as February 2012, an insider told Deadline that the studio "could push" the production due to the Grammy-winning songstress' pregnancy. With the remake project being postponed, director Clint Eastwood will now have more time to look for a suitable male co-star to play opposite the wife of Jay-Z. Eastwood has been considering several A-listers, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Will Smith, to be paired with Knowles but no deal has yet to be sealed. "A Star Is Born" promises an updated version of a romantic relationship between an alcoholic star on his way out and a young female artist on the rise. The project has actually been developed for sometime, but it fell apart before finally coming back together again earlier this year.
