Beyonce To Headline The 2015 Made In America Festival

Klaudia//June 25, 2015
Beyoncé and the Weeknd will headline the lineup for Jay Z's fourth annual Budweiser Made in America festival, which will return to Philadelphia the Labor Day weekend of September 5th. Also on board to perform at the fest are J. Cole, De La Soul, Axwell & Ingrosso, Nick Jonas, Bassnectar, Big Sean, Earl Sweatshirt, Meek Mill, Banks, Vic Mensa, Santigold and more. A ticket pre-sale for the festival starts Thursday, June 25th at 10:00 am EDT at www.ticketmaster.com. The general public can purchase their tickets on Monday, June 29th at 12:00 p.m. EDT.

This is the first year that the Made in America fest doesn't have a rock act in a headlining slot. While all genres of music are represented, the 2015 lineup leans heavily on hip-hop and R&B. However, plenty of rockers will still take the stage at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, including Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, Metric, Waxahatchee and Strands of Oak.

The Made in America performance marks Beyoncé's second time headlining her husband's festival; she previously appeared at the 2013 fest. Other acts performing at the 2015 fest are A-Trak, Action Bronson, Fabolous, DJ Mustard, G-Eazy, Flatbush Zombies, Duke Dumont, Halsey and Ryan Hemsworth. Check out the Made in America site for the complete lineup.

After two years in Philadelphia, the Made in America festival went bi-coastal in 2014, adding a Los Angeles event for the same weekend as the annual Philly get-together. However, the fest failed to have a similar impact on the West Coast as it does in the East and plans for a follow-up MIA LA fest were scrapped earlier this month.

University of Waterloo takes a closer look at Beyoncé

Klaudia//June 11, 2015
Want to study Beyoncé this fall? We don’t blame you. The Department of Drama and Speech Communication at the University of Waterloo is offering a course focused entirely on the mega superstar, entitled Gender and Performance (DRAMA 282).

Perhaps it is the mutability of her voice, the impenetrability of her image, the careful choreography of her public persona and the astute manipulation of audio, visual and audio-video mediums that position Beyoncé as one of the most influential performers of the 21st century. Eponymously titled, the “Beyoncé” album is a vexing articulation of contemporary mainstream feminism that has captivated audiences worldwide.

The course will be offered in Fall 2015 to all students and has no prerequisites. Students will analyze videos from Beyoncé’s most recent album, use feminist and critical race theories to reflect on the artist’s work and create their own artistic responses.

Instructor Professor Naila Keleta-Mae says that “whether or not feminist scholars, activists or artists agree with Beyoncé’s discourse, her influence on popular culture is undeniable. I would argue that it would be negligent for those of us interested in gender studies to dismiss the album ‘Beyoncé’ or its principal artist.”

Don’t let the course name fool you; this class is all about Beyoncé. “I'm over being a pop star. I don't wanna be a hot girl. I wanna be iconic.” - Beyoncé

Beyonce Signs With CAA's Music Department

Klaudia//June 11, 2015
Beyonce has moved her touring business from ICM Partners to CAA, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. She will remain with ICM for acting.

The superstar would be an instant signature client for any agency, and her partial departure is a blow for ICM, whose music department is one of its strengths. Her 2014 On the Run stadium tour with husband Jay Z grossed more than $100 million in ticket sales over 19 North American dates.

Beyonce initially came to ICM in 2006 from – ironically – CAA, when she followed her longtime motion picture talent agent Andrea Nelson Meigs.

Beyoncé and BeyGOOD Support Pediatric Care In Haiti

Klaudia//June 4, 2015
On May 16, 2015, Beyoncé embarked on a humanitarian trip to the island of Haiti to visit local programs in a personal capacity to continue her support of previously funded programs and learn more about humanitarian activities.

While on location, Beyoncé visited the Saint Damien Hospital in Tabarre. Funded completely through private contributions to NPH worldwide, St. Damien provides high quality medical treatment for disadvantaged and sick children in Haiti and has associated public health and community programs that reach more than 90,000 children and adults annually.

However, due to a recent reduction in funding commitment, the hospital has lost the equivalent of two months of funding resulting in significant cutbacks both in staff (450 Haitians are employed here) and in the number of children that can be treated. As an immediate result there are now empty wards, reduced oncology intake, the reduction in the residents program that trains Haitian Doctors, and hundreds of children who are turned away from medical care they desperately need.

Your purchase of a BeyGOOD Haiti t-shirt can help solve an urgent funding crisis with all proceeds from sales of this shirt directly aiding St. Damien in re-opening an abandoned wing and continuing to aid the people of Haiti.

Details of Beyonce's Haiti Humanitarian Mission

Klaudia//May 20, 2015
On May 16, 2015 Valerie Amos the Emergency Relief Coordinator, UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) accompanied Beyoncé on a humanitarian trip to the island of Haiti. During the trip, Beyoncé visited multiple local programs in a personal capacity to learn more about humanitarian activities.

First stop was the IDP Camp in Caradeux, one of many earthquake settlement camps still in Haiti following the destruction of the 2010 earthquake. The overall people in need of humanitarian assistance has decreased considerably and the number of people displaced in camps has dropped to about 65,000 a 96% reduction from July 2010. but with More than 65,000 Haitians still living in settlement camps, the need for assistance is dire.

Following visits to the camp, the team visited the NPH Saint Damien Hospital in Tabarre, Haiti. Funded through private contributions to NPH worldwide, St. Damien provides high quality medical treatment for disadvantaged and sick children in Haiti and has associated public health and community programs of reach over 90,000 children and adults annually.

The trip also included a tour of the IDP Relocation site in Morne Nazare and a helicopter trip over Port-au-Prince to see progress of the structural reconstruction since the devastation of the 2010 earthquake.

Beyonce's Hairstylist on Her Last-Minute Met Gala Change

Klaudia//May 14, 2015
'Course sometimes s--t goes down when there's a billion dollars in the elevator! When Beyonce hit the red carpet at the 2015 Met Gala hours after most of the other stars posed for the cameras, she flawlessly worked her racy Givenchy gown and her high ponytail.

But what most don't know is that the "Flawless" singer's effortless look was finalized in the elevator. No, not that elevator, but in the elevator of her apartment building on the way to the swanky event's carpet.

Beyonce's longtime hairstylist Neal Farinah (of the Neal Farinah Salon in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood on Fulton Street) was on hand for the quick fix, and exclusively told Us Weekly’s Gwen Flamberg about the last-minute switch up.

"For the Met Ball we did that high ponytail but that wasn't supposed to be the style," Farinah revealed. "We did that in the elevator as she was on the way out."

Originally Bey's long locks were entirely wrapped up in "an asian-inspired chignon," but Farinah said the Grammy winner felt the look might be too "costumey," and made a spur-of-the-moment decision.

"Then we were in the elevator on the way down, and she looks at me and says 'Neal, I want to change my hair, will you change my hair?' And I said, 'Honey, there could be cameras in the elevator,'" Farinah quipped, referencing last year's infamous "Elevatorgate" in which her sister Solange Knowles got into a physical altercation with her husband Jay Z. "She says, 'You have 5 minutes.' And I said, 'Girl, what do you want me to do with the hair?' And she wanted a high ponytail. With Beyonce, she looks at herself and she says, 'This isn't right, let's change it.'"

Beyonce & Jay Z Releasing Their Joint Album On Tidal?

Klaudia//April 23, 2015
Rumor has it, Jay Z and Beyoncé's reported joint album will drop “exclusively” on TIDAL. DJ Skee revealed the latest scoop on the project during a segment on today's Skee TV. The Cali radio personality said that he has heard from sources that the album is "nearing completion."

Though the power couple have yet to confirm that they are actually recording the collaboration, this is the second update Skee has given on the album since last September. Producer Detail (who's responsible for Bey’s smash, “Drunk In Love”) told Billboard in February, that the new album could be out this year. "In my imaginary mind, I'll work to say it's true," he said.

If the rumors are correct TIDAL could potentially see a boost from Hov and Bey, as the company tries to make a name for itself in the digital streaming space.

Drake Has a Song with Beyoncé on His New Album

Klaudia//April 17, 2015
Drake and Beyoncé have recorded a new collaboration for Drake’s upcoming album Views From the 6.

Writer Ernest Baker followed the Canadian rapper around in the week leading up to his Coachella performance and wrote about his experiences for Four Pins. Among the interesting tidbits in the article is that Drake has two songs finished that he likes for his new album. One is a song that he “expects to inspire a paradigm shift.” The other is a collaboration with Beyoncé.

The two previously collaborated on “Mine” for Beyoncé’s surprise album, and Queen Bey inspired Drake’s 2013 tribute “Girls Love Beyoncé.”

Baker compares Views From the 6 to what Kanye West did with 808s & Heartbreak. “It appears that Drake is ready to deviate from his winning formula and get a little weird,” he writes, adding, “His days of releasing lay-up bangers that everyone loves right away are over. For now, at least.”

Giuseppe Zanotti Announces Beyoncé Collaboration

Klaudia//March 20, 2015
His heels top every woman’s lust-list, and his sneakers have become a must-have staple amongst every self-respecting hip hop artist. Giuseppe Zanotti, the San Mauro Pascoli-born Italian creative, whose sexy heels and gold plated sneaks, find their way to the red carpet, just as easily as they find their way to the street. I meet with Zanotti in the men’s section of his designer shoe universe: the Zanotti showroom in Milan, located on the Italian fashion capital’s premier high-end shopping street Via Monte Napoleone.

The designer reveals that Beyoncé has her first shoe in collaboration with Zanotti coming out, scheduled for release within one or two weeks. “I’m doing a shoe with Beyoncé right now,” Giuseppe tells me while showing me an image of a sketch, from his phone. I’m not able to see what the final product will turn out like exactly, but going by the sketch, Beyoncé has a thing for ultra thick platform stilettos. “Beyoncé has very clear ideas – she knows exactly what she wants. The thing which she then also has over other celebrities, is that she has an amazing voice. She’s incredibly talented and she’s an amazing dancer – she’s complete. Few are like Beyoncé,” the designer says about the multiple Grammy award-winning artist he has known ever since her Destiny’s Child days. “I’m working on finalizing the shoe with her stylist right now. And Beyoncé will then say what she likes and what she doesn’t like. It will be one shoe only,” Zanotti concludes with regards to the shoe that will certainly get the BeyHive craving.
