'Homecoming' Reached 1.1M US Viewers in Its First Day

May 15, 2019

Netflix’s critically-acclaimed concert special Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé reached 1.1 million U.S. viewers on its April 17 premiere date, according to data newly provided by Nielsen via its SVOD Content Ratings system.

Introduced in October 2017, SVOD Content Ratings measures the viewership of subscription video on demand (SVOD) services via audio recognition software installed in 44,000 U.S. homes that contain Nielsen's TV set meters. While the highly-secretive Netflix has stated in the past that Nielsen's ratings are “not even close” to being accurate, it is the most reliable measure yet of SVOD viewership data.

According to the numbers compiled by Nielsen, the audience for Homecoming was 63% African American on the day of its premiere and 55% over its first seven days, more than any other Netflix original film or series analyzed to date (the closest was Bird Box with 24%). Hispanics, meanwhile, made up 15% of viewers, while Asians comprised 5%.

'Lemonade' Returns to Top 10 on Billboard 200

April 29, 2019

It’s a big week for Beyoncé on the Billboard 200 albums chart, as the diva claims a pair of concurrent top 10 albums for the first time.

Her 2016 album Lemonade re-enters the list at No. 9 following its wide streaming release, and Homecoming: The Live Album jumps 7-4 after its first full chart tracking week of activity. Further, two more Beyoncé albums dot the list, as both I Am… Sasha Fierce and her self-titled set re-enter the tally.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new May 4-dated chart, where Lemonade re-enters at No. 9, will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on April 30.

Homecoming: The Live Album rises 7-4 after its first full chart tracking week of activity, earning 57,000 equivalent album units (up 47%) in the week ending April 25. The album gains in both SEA and TEA units, but declines in album sales (8,000; down 43%). On the April 26-dated chart (reflecting the tracking week ending April 18), the album debuted on the list from just two days of activity, as it was released on April 17.

Beyonce's 'Homecoming' Album Debuts in Top 10 on Billboard 200

April 23, 2019

Beyoncé’s surprise-released Homecoming: The Live Album debuts at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart with 38,000 units earned from just two days of tracking activity (with 14,000 of that sum in album sales). The album dropped with no warning in the very early hours of Wednesday, April 17, and the tracking week for the chart ended on April 18. (Billboard’s album charts’ tracking week runs Friday through Thursday.)

Homecoming: The Live Album was released to digital retail and streaming services shortly after the premiere of Beyoncé’s Homecoming film on Netflix at 12:01 a.m. on April 17. Both projects chronicle Beyoncé’s headlining performances at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Homecoming: The Live Album is Beyoncé’s eighth top 10 album as a soloist. She also recently visited the top 10 as one-half of The Carters (alongside husband Jay-Z) with 2018’s No. 2-peaking Everything Is Love.

It’s possible that Homecoming: The Live Album could rise higher on next week’s Billboard 200 chart (dated May 4), after its first full tracking week of activity.

Beyonce's Netflix Deal Worth a Whopping $60 Million

April 20, 2019

Netflix has become a destination for television visionaries like Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy, with deals worth $100 million and $250 million, respectively, and top comedians like Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle ($40 million and $60 million, respectively). The streaming giant, which just announced it’s added nearly 10 million subscribers in Q1, is honing in on music, too, landing a three-project deal with Beyonce worth a whopping $60 million, sources tell Variety.

The first of the three specials is “Homecoming,” the behind-the-scenes documentary chronicling her 2018 Coachella performance — a massive spectacle of dance, visuals and music that reaffirmed Beyonce’s moniker of Queen Bey — which premiered on April 17. The price tag on this installment, for which Beyonce Knowles-Carter is credited as executive producer, writer and director, hovers around $20 million. Beyonce’s rep did not respond to Variety’s requests for comment; Netflix declined comment for this story, although a source at the company disputed the financial terms of the deal.

According to Vulture, HBO was also interested in the project, having had a long relationship with Knowles-Carter (the cable network aired her 2016 “Lemonade” film as well as her 2014 “On the Run Tour” concert special with husband Jay-Z and 2013 doc “Life Is But a Dream”), but backed out when Netflix came in with a richer offer. (HBO has not responded to Variety‘s request for comment.)

Beyonce Released 'Homecoming' Live Album Along With Netflix Documentary

April 17, 2019

Beyonce’s history-making 2018 Coachella performance is now available as both a documentary and a live album. Homecoming is the expected Netflix documentary that the singer has been teasing for the past few weeks and also the title of the accompanying live album, which unexpectedly accompanied the arrival of the film. While the trailer for the Homecoming film has been circulating on Youtube for the past week, plans to release the performance as an album were kept mum until Beyonce herself tweeted the link at midnight PST.

With Homecoming the film detailing the creation and performance of the set, Homecoming the album features the full concert, which included Beyonce hits like “7/11,” “Crazy In Love,” “Formation,” “Single Ladies,” and her Coachella rendition of “Lift Every Voice And Sing,” the Black National Anthem. The tracklist also features two bonus tracks: “I Been On,” a tribute to Beyonce’s hometown of Houston, Texas, and a cover of Frankie Beverly And Maze’s “Before I Let Go,” a Black family reunion staple.

Homecoming is out now via Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. Get it here. The Homecoming film is now available on Netflix.

Netflix Teases Possible Beyoncé ‘Homecoming’ Documentary

April 7, 2019

Last week, a rumor started to circulate regarding a possible Beyoncé documentary making its way to Netflix. Sources close to the singer also indicated that she's been in the studio working on some new music, but it's currently unclear if there's a follow-up to Lemonade on the way anytime soon. However, it's starting to look as though the first part of the rumor might be true after all, as Netflix has sent the Beyhive into a frenzy with a simple tweet.

Netflix teased a project entitled Homecoming on their social media accounts. While there's no more information besides an April 17 release date, fans immediately connected the font and color theme in the teaser image with that of Beyoncé's Coachella 2018 merch.

While it's not exactly a confirmation, it's starting to look very likely that fans will be getting a behind-the-scenes look at Bey's legendary set at the 2018 festival. Sources did state that the documentary would "be tied to her Coachella 2018 performance" and will feature unspecified additional footage. Regardless, we won't have to wait much longer to find out what Homecoming has in store.

Beyonce Is Working on New Music and a Netflix Special?

April 5, 2019

Beyoncé has one busy summer ahead of her! While the singer is gearing up for the July 19 release of Disney’s The Lion King remake, in which she voices Nala, she has two other projects in the pipeline, multiple sources confirm exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly.

Beyoncé, 37, does not have a full album on the way, according to one source, but she has recorded a “couple of new tracks a deluxe album filled with old songs.”

What’s more? The 23-time Grammy winner is also working with Netflix on a documentary, which a second insider tells Us “will be tied to her Coachella 2018 performance” with additional footage.

The new music will be the first solo material that Beyoncé has dropped since her surprise 2016 visual album, Lemonade. In 2018, she and husband Jay-Z released their long-awaited joint album, Everything Is Love, in the midst of their coheadlining On the Run II stadium tour.

Beyonce shared her thoughts on the Global Citizen Festival and more photos from South Africa on Instagram.

"After settling in at home from a beautiful trip to South Africa and India, I am still in awe that 7.1 BILLION dollars was raised to aid Global Citizen in its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty.
I’d like to give my praise and respect to all the speakers, performers, and volunteers who donated their time to contribute to making positive change. Every person in the audience at FNB Stadium earned a seat because they generously donated their time to help their community. Now their efforts and the money raised will help improve education, healthcare, sanitation, women’s rights, and countless other causes for millions across the globe.
I felt so much positivity and pride in the audience at Global Citizen: Mandela 100. Madiba, Johannesburg, and all of my African sisters and brothers, we hope we made you as proud as you all make us. South Africa was an extraordinary trip for me and my family. God bless.

Beyonce and Nine Inch Nails top an eclectic lineup for Budweiser's second annual Made In America Festival, scheduled to return to Philadelphia for Labor Day weekend on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Jay-Z once again curated this year's roster, but will not perform unlike last year's headlining set. Tickets went on sale Wednesday to American Express cardmembers and fans of the Budweiser Made In America Facebook page exclusively through Tuesday April 16 at 10 p.m. ET. Public on sale begins Wednesday April 17.

Other performers announced today, via Made In America's Spotify playlist, include Queens of the Stone Age, Deadmau5, Phoenix, Calvin Harris, Empire of the Sun, Imagine Dragons, Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miguel, Public Enemy, Nero, 2 Chainz, Gaslight Anthem, A$AP Rocky, Walk The Moon, Solange, Feed Me, Porter Robinson, Wolfgang Gartner, Emeli Sande, Haim, Schoolboy Q, Ab Soul, GTA, Robert DeLong, Red Light, Rudimental, Aluna George, Jay Rock, Jessie Rose and TJR.

"The point of having that diversity in our music lineup we’re trying to expose the people to different types of music," says Paul Chibe, Budweiser's VP of marketing. "Much like last year, where if you never saw Pearl Jam but you're a Jay-Z fan, we want fans of Beyonce or Calvin Harris or Wiz Khalifa to have the opportunity to see Nine Inch Nails or stuff they might have seen for awhile like Public Enemy. That eclectic mix creates an opportunity for us to really show the impact of music and culture."

The inaugural Made In America was a notable success, having grossed $5 million in ticket sales and attracting nearly 80,000 people, according to Billboard Boxscore. This year's festival will also once again benefit the United Ways of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, Lancaster County, PA. The festival will also be produced for a second year by ad agency Translation, in which Jay-Z is a partner.
John Legend talks about teaming up with Beyoncé to headline Chime For Change gig at London's Twickenham Stadium.

Talking to The Huffington Post UK in London about the line-up, the 'Ordinary People' singer said: "It's a pretty dynamic group of people and I'm proud to be part of it."

"We have a very high mutual respect for each other," says Grammy Award-winning singer John Legend about Beyoncé, whom he's teaming up with for a huge London concert.

Legend, who is on the same record label as Beyoncé and says he knows her "socially", confessed he would love to duet with her on stage at the show. With an impressive back catalogue between them, what would they sing?
"I don't know, I'll have to talk to Mrs Carter about that," he laughs.

According to Legend "it makes perfect sense" to stage the concert in London. "Why not London? London knows how to throw a good party, as the Olympics proved recently, and it's such an international city that's connected to so many of the cities we want to work in."
Beyoncé Knowles will headline a global concert in London on Saturday June 1, as part of Gucci's international campaign Chime For Change which aims to raise funds for female empowerment. The event, which will be broadcast around the world, will also feature performances from Florence and the Machine, Ellie Goulding, Iggy Azalea, John Legend, Rita Ora, Laura Pausini and Timbaland. The news was announced this morning at a press conference in London.

"Our goal is to call for change for girls and women in the loudest voice possible," said Chime For Change co-founder and concert artistic director, Beyoncé Knowles. "I am excited for us to come together on June 1 to bring the issues of education, health and justice for girls and women to the world stage."

As well as music, the concert - entitled The Sound Of Change Live - will also show inspirational short films and stories highlighting women's global issues. The event, to be held at Twickenham Stadium, will be produced by Control Room's Kevin Wall and Aaron Grosky, who were behind Live Earth and Live Aid.

Gucci will provide financial assistance to put on the show, so that all ticket sales will go to towards charities fighting for better education, justice and health for women. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Wednesday March 27. There will also be the option to choose which charity ticket sales will be donated to.

"This is the emergency and the opportunity of today," said Gucci creative director and Chime For Change co-founder Frida Giannini. "We have reached a significant moment in the history of girls' and women's empowerment and now is the time for change. On June 1 at Twickenham Stadium, I hope that The Sound Of Change Live will help the voices calling for change to become so loud that they cannot be ignored."
Contrary to reports claiming superstars Adele and Beyonce have been scheduled to perform at a birthday bash for Michelle Obama, the two will not be making musical appearances.

"This is 100 percent false," a White House official told NBC News, adding, "It was fabricated by a British tabloid."

"America's first lady will be holding a huge celebrity-packed party for her birthday at the White House next year and, as she adores Adele and Beyonce, she has asked them both to sing," a source reportedly told the paper. "Adele has graciously accepted and waived her usual fee for the high-profile private performance. She will sing a selection of her most-loved hits for the first lady and her friends."

The First Lady will turn 50 on January 17, 2014.
Beyonce and Kings Of Leon will headline this year's V Festival, it's been announced.

The dual festival will take place at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire over the weekend of 17th and 18th August.

Emeli Sande, Calvin Harris, Jessie J and Olly Murs will also perform at the 18th staging of the festival, organisers said.

The line-up will also feature: Stereophonics, The Script, Calvin Harris, Beady Eye, Two Door Cinema Club, The Vaccines, Basement Jaxx, Paloma Faith, James, Rita Ora, The Courteeners, Jason Mraz, FUN., Labrinth, Ellie Goulding, Kendrick Lamar, Of Monsters And Men, Maverick Sabre, Travis, DJ Fresh/LIVE, Jessie Ware, Maximo Park, Lianne La Havas, Rudimental, James Arthur, Scouting For Girls, Deacon Blue, Little Mix, Ocean Colour Scene, The Fratellis, Gabrielle Aplin and Laura Mvula.

Tickets for V Festival go on sale on 1st March at 9am.

Festival Directors Bob Angus, Simon Moran and Dennis Desmond sad: "We've worked hard to bring fans an exciting and diverse line-up, securing Beyonce for an exclusive European Festival appearance and Kings of Leon as headliners is a great achievement.

"These acts along with one of the strongest bills in V Festival's 18 year history is something we are very proud of. We have a reputation for bringing fans the best world class acts and breakthrough artists, 2013 is set to be another sensational year.”
Ticketscript have apologised for posting a fake music event which led to rumours circulating today (February 15) that Justin Timberlake and Beyonce were set to perform an intimate London gig.

The event appeared on the concert tracking website, Songkick and seemed to show that the pop icons would play to just 500 people in small London venue, The Garage.

However, Ticketscipt have revealed that this isn't a real event and was never meant to be seen by the public.

The statement reads: "The event in question listed Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Toto as headliners at an event at The Garage. This is not a real event. Ticketscript would like to apologise for any confusion and inconvenience that this may have caused."

The statement continued: "This event was set up in the ticketscript system as a test event. Unfortunately the data was then connected to Songkick and was published on the Songkick website."

Details of the event were quickly removed, leaving fans confused as to whether it was actually going to happen.

Unfortunately, no such concert is in the pipeline and fans wanting to see Timberlake or Beyonce will have to see them separately.
Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake are reportedly planning to headline an intimate gig in London next month.

The singers are believed to be playing a secret show at Islington's The Garage in London on Easter Sunday (March 31).

Rumours about the show have been circulating online after artists tracking website Songkick posted details of the event, before quickly removing them, reports The Sun.

Some fans have also revealed that they have been invited to the event - with the venue's capacity at just 500 - by posting their alleged invitations on social networking sites.

Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake have been openly working with each other on their respective albums, though it's unknown whether a new collaboration has been recorded.
2013 is shaping up to be the year of Beyoncé.

After a powerful Super Bowl halftime show, the singer, 31, is embarking on the Mrs. Carter world tour – and just added a special performance.

Beyoncé will return to New Orleans's Superdome to headline one of three concerts during the 19th annual Essence Festival, which takes place between 4 and 7 July.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Beyoncé back to the 2013 Essence Festival lineup. She is truly the ultimate Essence woman," Communications President Michelle Ebanks said in a statement.

The festival will also include performances by Jill Scott, Maxwell, New Edition, Charlie Wilson, Keyshia Cole, LL Cool J and Brandy.
Millions tuned in to watch the 2013 Super Bowl and Beyoncé’s halftime performance, with a surprise from “Destiny’s Child,” that stole the show.

“Extra’s” AJ Calloway caught up with Bey backstage and she gushed, “I’m feeling so proud, it was a really beautiful day and I’m very happy for Ray . All the hard work, five months of preparation and it was really great.”

The “Single Ladies” singer continued, “It really was a magnificent night for me and the girls… I felt like Alicia and Jennifer Hudson were so classy and beautiful…it was a great night to be a woman and an African-American woman.”

The halftime show was so hot, some joked that it caused a power outage. Alec and Hilaria Baldwin called the performance, “Amazing.” “She just leaves your mouth on the floor... she's incredible... and all three of them together was incredible, it was a great show,” Alec said. John Travolta added, “She killed it, it was awesome.”

The half-hour that included Beyonce’s performance at Super Bowl XLVII was one of the most watched segments of the NFL championship on Sunday, hitting an average of about 104 million viewers, Billboard estimates, based on Nielsen data.

Nielsen estimated 108.41 million viewers tuned in for the Super Bowl, making it the third-most-watched program in television history behind Super Bowl XLVI and Super Bowl XLV. Nielsen, heeding CBS’s request, is not counting the 34-minute power outage delay in its ratings.

The halftime show began shortly before 8:10 p.m. ET and between 8 and 8:30, the show did a 48.2 rating, according to Nielsen’s metered market ratings. Based on Nielsen’s math of a little more than two viewers per television set, the viewership is in the 104 million ballpark. It is highly likely that when final numbers are released, Beyonce’s total will be lower than the 104 million estimate.

The block with Beyonce’s 14-minute performance outperformed the previous half-hour by three-tenths of a rating point. The Baltimore Ravens-San Francisco 49ers game peaked, audience-wise, between 10:30 and 10:47 p.m. when an average of 113.982 million viewers were watching.

The audience for Beyonce trailed Madonna’s performance at last year’s Super Bowl. Madge attracted 112.5 million viewers, surpassing the 95.7 million who watched Bruce Springsteen in 2009.

Beyonce’s performance was a showcase to promote her upcoming tour that will start with a June 28 concert at L.A.’s Staples center. Her show will be the kickoff of a three-day BET Experience at L.A. Live that will include music and comedy concerts, film screenings, “106 & Park” tapings, BET Fan Fest, seminars, a Grammy Museum exhibit and other events.
Beyonce, one of the world's top pop queens, will be the main opening-night attraction at Rock in Rio 2013, to be held between Sep 13-22, the organizers said Monday.

Beyonce, winner of 16 Grammy Awards, confirmed her participation in the Rio de Janeiro festival in the early hours Monday after her halftime performance at the NFL Super Bowl.

She was the winner of a survey taken by Rock in Rio organizers to find out which artists people in Rio de Janeiro would most like to see.

Beyonce, who has sold 75 million discs worldwide, showed her popularity in Brazil in 2010 when her five concerts were practically sold out.

The American pop sensation joins a lineup that includes Metallica, Alice in Chains, the Swedish group Ghost and the veteran bands Iron Maiden and Slayer.

The last time the festival was staged in Rio de Janeiro, in 2011, it attracted 700,000 people over seven days to see artists that included Coldplay, Mana, Snow Patrol, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Shakira.
Beyonce with a dash of Sasha Fierce! Beyonce's jaw-dropping Super Bowl halftime show look required a balance between flirtatious and glam. To create the right hairstyle for her fierce performance in New Orleans on Sunday, Feb. 3, Beyonce turned to beauty expert and entrepreneur Kim Kimble for help.

The 31-year-old "Crazy in Love" singer's hair guru revealed to Us Weekly the "four key items" she used to create Beyonce's look.

1. Brazilian Nut & Acai Berry Serum ($12.99)
2. Natural Bamboo Grooming Brush by Kimble Hair Care ($21.96)
3. Curling Iron
4. Elnett Holding Spray (L'Oreal, $14.99)

"To create Beyonce's soft glam look, I began by creating a deep middle part in Beyonce's hair," Kimble told Us. "I then used the curling wand and began to curl her hair in a vertical pattern."

"Once I completed curling her hair into the desired curl pattern, I gently brushed the curls out by using a natural bamboo grooming brush by Kimble Hair Care," she explained. "This created a really nice finger-wave pattern."

To smooth out the look, Kimble used the Brazilian Nut and Acai Berry Serum by Kimble Hair Care

"This refined the curl pattern ensuring a seamless finish," she said. "Lastly, I used Elnett Holding Spray by L'Oreal to set the look and the result will be glam, soft, bold and Beyonce."
To construct their brief-but-electric reunion at the Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday (Feb. 3), Destiny's Child singers Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams had a slew of beloved classics to choose from -- and, as it turns out, Beyonce nixed one of the supergroup's biggest hits from the setlist, a source tells Us Weekly exclusively.

"They rehearsed with 'Bills, Bills, Bills,'" the source says of the trio's 1999 smash -- their first bonafide number one single. "And the band started talking about, 'How come they're not doing 'Bootylicious?'"

The problem with "Bills"? "It turned out to be too slow and wasn't flowing with the rest of the set," the insider explains. 2001's number hit "Bootylicious," which the group ultimately performed together, "was a better way to introduce the girls with their names. It worked so much better."

Beyonce also opted to nix the group's midtempo new single, "Nuclear," opting instead for 2000's "Independent Women Part I" before seguing into Beyonce's solo hit "Single Ladies."

Jay-Z was also supposed to join Beyonce on stage for "Crazy in Love" but decided at the last minute not to do so.

"He wanted that to be her moment and didn't want to take away from it," a source close to the couple tells Us Weekly. "She had been working her ass off."

Instead, the 43-year-old hip-hop mogul watched his wife perform from a special area with their 12-month-old daughter, Blue Ivy, and other family members.
